Hundreds of years ago, vampires roamed the streets in secret. They blended in with the human population, the monster inside of them entirely invisible to the human eye. But soon the royal family could not take the isolation and hiding any longer. They wanted to be free. They wanted to live among the humans in peace.

But once they came out of the darkness, vampire hunters went wild, killing hundreds of vampires. In retaliation, vampires went on feeding sprees, killing thousands of humans. The war raged on for years, until the vampire Queen decided that enough was enough.

They must end the war. They must create a contract between the two sides so that humans and vampires could live among each other in peace. What better way to do that than make a human marry the vampire prince?

Taehyung laid in bed, staring up at the ceiling. He was supposed to have gotten up an hour ago, but he couldn't will himself to get out of the warm comfort of his bed. Taehyung glanced at the clock and let out a miserable sigh, realizing that it was late. Pushing the thick comforter off of his body, Taehyung swung his legs over the edge of the bed and stood up, his bare feet touching the cold wooden floor.

Taehyung knew that it wasn't safe to go out that day, but he had work. The only good thing about his job was that it paid for public transportation. That was the safest way to get to work since there were too many people on the bus for anything serious to happen.

Taehyung started to get ready for work, trying hard not to think about what would occur on the news that night. A special program was being aired on every television in South Korea, broadcasting who would be the "lucky" person that would have to seal the contract and finally put an end to the vampire and human war. Taehyung felt bad for whoever was picked.

The contract was a marriage between a human and the vampire prince. Taehyung had never seen the prince, personally because he didn't care about him. In fact, he didn't care about any of the vampires. Taehyung hated all of them so much.

Taehyung had wanted to be a vampire hunter ever since he was little. But his fear of the vampires got in the way, and instead he focused on showing his support to the brave hunters who tried to rid the world of the monsters. Vampire hunters were brave, and Taehyung was anything but brave.

Taehyung's fear of vampires was so bad that he hardly ever went out, unless it was to work or to get groceries for his family, which consisted of his parents and little sister. Taehyung always took public transportation, using his benefits from work to his advantage. He would never dare walk, ride a bike, or drive himself. Taehyung would also set a curfew of seven o'clock. After seven, Taehyung was locked away in his house, safe from all the monsters.

Taehyung went about his day: eating breakfast, getting washed up, and heading to work. Work was uneventful. Thankfully, his work—which was at a convenience store—only allowed humans to enter. They had someone at the front door who checked the temperatures of people's skin before they could enter. Vampires always had ridiculously low body temperatures.

When Taehyung returned from work later that day, he found his family clustered on the couch in front of the television. Taehyung had missed dinner since his shift ended at 6:30 and the bus ride took thirty minutes, so he walked directly to the dinner table to bring his food into his room. His dad must have gotten home early that day, and Taehyung was thankful. Some days his dad worked late and it concerned Taehyung that he wouldn't get home safely.

Taehyung took his bowl of chicken curry and rice into his room and set it on the bedside table. He quickly changed into sweats and a t-shirt, much more comfortable than his khakis and polo shirt that he had to wear to work. He plopped down on the bed and turned the television on, grabbing his bowl and digging into his dinner.
