The brunette boy looked up into the face of the tall kid who had shoved him to the ground. He barely registered anything else except for the one thought in his head, which was 'Why?'
The kid was laughing till he too was shoved into the dirt with a scrappy younger kid punching at every inch of him... a grape juice box exploded and pandemonium ensued till the teacher came.
That was Dutch's best friend.
"Tommy you really shouldn't have done that," the young boy muttered as the other sat in time out in the classroom, nose stuck in the corner, flaking paint in his face
"He was asking for it when he hurt my best friend," it still stunned him a little, having only known the little sandy blonde haired kid for just over a week or two, that they were the best of friends already.
Tommy REALLY mattered to him. The kid who never let anyone in, but somehow Tommy had wheedled his way into Dutch's heart, having pestered him to be friends since they'd first met, making Dutch instantly think it was adorable.
"You know I'll always have your back Dutch..." the boy said from the corner and Dutch felt a surge of affection and pride.
"I got your back too Tommy."
"Best friends?" "Always."
The six and seven year old friends exchanged wide smiles.
"Always..." Dutch pinkie promised and meant that word, meaning 'it's you and me till the end.'
