I slept solidly once I had crawled into bed, Fane decided to sleep in his own bed since his dad had arrived early. The bed felt so empty and lonely without him, my wolf whined in my chest as I rolled over onto my other side, Fane’s scent filled my nose. I had to admit that I missed having Fane by my side, maybe he was my mate? But if he was, would I have to leave my pack? As much as I feel like I love him, I don’t think I could ever leave my pack, I care too much for them and I had to prove to myself that I could step up and do what my father did for the people he loved most.
The sun started to peek through the gaps in my curtains, pulling me from my dreams of Fane. I pulled on jeans and a t-shirt, cracking my back and my neck as I went. Changing into a wolf and back sure took a toll on my body. I made my down the stairs and into the kitchen, where Rosie was making breakfast, her blonde hair was limp and her skin was sweaty and pale.
“Rosie, why don’t you get some sleep?”
“I can’t, breakfast has to be made for Mr Serban and the rest of our guests.”
I put a hand on her shoulder, “Rosie, I’ll finish this off. Go get some sleep, you’ll be of no use to your patients if you stay like this.”
Rosie reluctantly nodded, “You’re right. There’s bacon and rabbit in the oven already, only the sausages need to be cooked.”
“I’ve got it. Go to bed.”
Rosie weakly smiled, the sparkle in her blue eyes was replaced by fatigue. I took control of the kitchen, putting the sausages in the pan and setting up plates along the bench.
“You are a very selfless leader my dear.”
I turned to see Mr Anton Serban standing in the door way to the kitchen, he wore his suit pants and white shirt, the tie and jacket were gone, making him appear less stern.
“Mr Serban, breakfast will be ready shortly.” I said with a curt nod in his direction.
“Thank you, shall I collect Fane?”
“If you wish.”
He nodded and disappeared, for that I was thankful, I was not ready to take on Fane’s father on my own just yet. Spencer, Fane and Anton arrived just as I had put the sausages on a plate.
“Fane, could you please get the meat out of the oven and put them on the bench?”
He nodded and collected the meat.
“Feel free to begin eating, I’ll be back in just a moment.”
I left the kitchen to check on Damien in the emergency room, he still laid unmoving on top of the bed. The grey goop Rosie had applied to his wounds had started to fall off, revealing pink flesh that hadn’t quite scarred yet. His breathing was better and his fever had gone down, my spirits lifted at the thought that he may actually survive this. I placed a gentle kiss on his forehead and returned to the kitchen where my guests were happily filling their stomachs with the cooked meat.
“How is he?” Fane asked.
“He has mostly healed, I have high hopes that he will be just fine.” I replied, grabbing the last plate and filling it with some meat before sitting next to Fane, he seemed to stiffen at my close proximity, it sent my wolf into fits of whines. We all sat silently, eating our meals, the silence was making me restless, so once I had finished eating I rose from the table.
“If you wouldn’t mind, I’m going to go do some training before we proceed these matters.”
“No, of course, we will be right here when you return.”
