The Ainsworth adults had all come to the solution that the vacation stay would be cut a few days short, it was for the best. However, for Florence and Clara it was for the worst, this meant they didn't have much time to say goodbye or gain any closure before scheduled for departure.
The ferry was moving agonizingly fast and would be docking shortly, hardly a few miles off of the shore. The Bernardos and Ainsworth's said their goodbyes to each other at the pier. Florence hugged Nunzio and Jasper, she was especially sad because she knew that the next time she'd get to see them would be next summer when they'd be a year older, she hated seeing them grow up- all it meant was change.
"Don't get into any trouble you two." She hugged them one more time before letting them hurry off.
"We never do." The two boys giggled and rushed to the edge of the pier, throwing rocks into the water as far as they could.
The Edwards were keeping their distance, still at Winterberry purposefully avoiding the rest of the family. They'd take the next ferry back. This drove Clara crazy, she laid back in her bed and stared at the ceiling of her dimly lit Winterberry guest room, she was eager to get back to her actual life back in Lexington. It pained her greatly to not be able to use every remaining second on the island to be with Florence.
"Oh! I need to get back to Mulberry to retrieve my necklace, I totally forgot to put it on before leaving." Florence darted to the car without waiting for permission to take the car. "Florence! Get back here, we can have it shipped back to us with the other items." Ophelia's words fell upon deaf ears. Florence gunned it back to Mulberry, checking for Grandmother Rosemary's necklace which remained it her pocket from where she stashed it prior. She threw the car in park and jogged to the window of Winterberry, saying a prayer, hoping the blonde was in her room.
A pebble smacked the window of the guest room, startling Clara in the way that planted a smile on her face. Clara motioned the brunette towards the wooden panel of vines that ran up the side of the house.
"I had a feeling you'd pay me a visit before leaving." Clara grinned as Florence placed her hands on the blonde's waist with a roll of her eyes. They shared a passionate kiss, unable to separate. "I'll miss kissing you, Clara." Florence admitted as they took quick breathes before resuming. "This isn't the end though...right?" Clara pulled away a bit hesitant to even ask for reassurance.
"Never, I'll write you, I'll fly you out, I'll visit you, I'll do whatever to see you. I won't stop loving you Clara." Florence answered before placing her necklace around the blonde. The girls tried to make the last few seconds they had last forever but they couldn't prevent the inevitable goodbye.
"Goodbye for now, Florence Ainsworth." Clara smiled as she helped the brunette out of her window, one last locking of lips before they went their separate ways.
