Chapter 4.
Once my ankle was fully healed I was back to normal in no time. Xavier was still busy as usual with his pack meetings and what I assumed to be figuring out who murdered my family. It had only been a few days since I was walking around again but I hadn't once seen him since that night. When I woke in the morning, he was gone. Much like before. Except this time, he left a note. However, his handwriting was so messy I couldn't read it and could only pick out words like "busy", "meeting", and "sorry". I knew he was trying to apologise but it still upset me that he left again without saying goodbye. But I assumed he must've been in a rush to write that messily and not say goodbye. Or maybe his handwriting was that messy anyway?
Either way, he'd still left, and hadn't tried to talk to me since so currently he was in my bad books.
Speaking of books, I was still trying to convince Noah to sneak out of the pack house with me and Sofia into the small shopping district in Flall Grove. I was really hoping to buy some new books and maybe a sketch pad or two to pick up my old hobby.
Drawing helped me escape the world and what was happening, much like reading. I enjoyed the escape. Too much sometimes. Sometimes I would read or draw for too long and waste a whole day. Or at least, that's how my brother saw it. He believed you should live every day like it was your last, and reading a book for the whole day did not fit into that motto. Either way, I'm glad he believed in that, and that he lived that way. His last day came too soon.
Without any hesitation or pain, I briskly walked from my ground floor room to the kitchen, adamant on making myself some breakfast, and then going to find Noah. That way, I could bribe him to take me out with pancakes. However, when I got there, my aunt was already making breakfast, and in the room with her sat my cousin, Jonah.
My aunt June was never really that close to my family. She preferred her other sister, the pack Luna, over my mother. And she also didn't support my mother's decision to marry my father. The reason for that was that my mother and father weren't mates, and my mum believed she'd never find her's as she was getting old. As for my father's mate, that's a different story.
June had always been very supportive and keen on following pack traditions and scorned my mother for not waiting for find her mate. My other aunt, the Luna, didn't care all that much and still sometimes visited us. June never did. So when I found out that she was to be my guardian; I was not happy. Yet, I do sympathise with June, as she met her mate young and he died in battle. She was pregnant at the time with Jonah, and he grew up without a father. Maybe that's why he's so malicious.
Jonah hated me. Ever since I was little, he would purposely pick on me. I remember once he pushed me into the river because I stuck my tongue out at him. I was five. Of course Lukas didn't hesitate in punching him. That was the first and one of the only times I'd ever seen Lukas become violent.
However, I did like the pack Luna. I wondered how the Alpha was still so strong. She was sick, dying even. This would be the second mate he would lose. The thing is with Alphas, or very strong werewolves with Alpha blood in their veins, they have a chance of having more than one mate. Ayden's first mate, Lucille died when giving birth to Xavier. Then he re-married, to the current Luna, my aunt Vivienne, and she gave him their other son, Michael. But Michael is only little, and since his mother is so sick, he lives with his nanny. So, I am not related to Xavier or Sofia.
As I looked around the kitchen, I wondered if it was possible then that Xavier had two mates. If he found her, would he choose her over me? I hoped so. The one thing is that once a mate has been marked and bound, you cannot be bound with another mate. Therefore, if I dragged out this time bomb of needing to be bound, I might be able to become the second option. Then Xavier would leave me alone. However, me and Xavier were almost friends, so hopefully we could keep the friendship.
