I know this first chapter is rushed. I'm sorry I just wanted to get some stuff out of the way.

"Lu...Lu wake up." Ethan whispers quietly in my ear, poking my cheek with his pointer finger.

Groaning I swat his hand away, causing Ethan to let out a small giggle. He's so cute. I open my eyes slowly, looking at Ethan's face, taking him in. He looks tired, his normally bright, wide eyes, have bags under them. His curly hair, messily thrown around in every direction from sleep. Pulling my eyes away from him, I turn to grab my phone off the nightstand to check the time. Why didn't my alarm go off? 5:26 A.M. that's why it didn't go off because it isn't supposed to for another 2 hours.

Sighing, I run my hands through my hair, "Ethan, why did you wake me up so early?" I snap angrily. Ethan flinches at my voice, backing up slightly. Shit. Normally I'm careful how I talk to Ethan, I know how sensitive he is when we're alone. It's just so early.

"Sorry, Lulu." He whispers, looking down at his hands. Sighing I sit up, grabbing Ethan's hand rubbing small circles on it. "It's okay E, you didn't do anything wrong. I'm sorry for snapping."

Noticing Ethan didn't answer my question from before, I ask again, gentler this time. "How come you're awake so early?" Ethan scoots closer resting his head on my shoulder. "Aren't you nervous? It's sorting day. This day decides how the rest of our lives will be." He says softly closing his eyes, relaxing on my shoulder. "I guess maybe a little. I'm more excited though." Snaking an arm around Ethan's waist and pulling him closer.

"What if I get one of the special ones? Then everything will change." I laugh at that, the special ones?

"The special ones, which ones would those be?" I move us so we're laying down again, Ethan still wrapped in my arms, his head pressed against my chest. "The specials are th-the pets, and the slaves, and the Littles."

"And why are they special?"

"Because everything changes for them. What they're allowed to do, who they're allowed to speak to, what they wear. There are even required special accessories for them." He finishes quietly, burying his face into my chest.

"Every classification has things they will need E, not just those. Things are going to change for everyone no matter which class they get. And E, every class is special, I've told you that before." He takes a deep breath before speaking, this time his voice coming out barely above a whisper.

"What if-what if you get paired with one of them, they need lots of attention Lu... will you leave me? Will you leave me for them?" There is no way he thinks that. Right? He doesn't think I will leave him. I wouldn't be able to leave him if I tried.

"Ethan, I will never leave you, I could never leave you. No matter what. No one will take your spot as the most important person in my life. Ever." Should I tell him?

"You promise Lu?"

"I promise E."

We lay like that for a couple of minutes, soaking in the relaxing silence.

"I-I'm hoping that we will be paired." I say breaking the silence. Biting my cheek as I wait for his reaction.

We've always been close, closer than most best friends. We live together, we share a bed even though my apartment has two separate rooms. He doesn't like physical touch at all from anyone besides me, it scares him. But my touch, calms him, it relaxes him, he feels safe with me. That makes me proud, it makes me feel good.

The people at school, including the teachers, know how we are, how he is. They know not to mess with him. They know if he's upset that they need to find me, then either we need to leave or they do so he can calm down. He'll only calm down when we're alone since the only way he'll calm down is if he's touching me in some way. He doesn't want people to see him like that, he doesn't want people to think he's weak, so he puts on this act for everyone. Everyone except me. He lets me in. He trusts me, he knows I won't hurt him.
