Three extremely intimidating men walked into the room
"We'll handle the experiment from here." The shorter one in the middle said.
"I- I d-don't know w-what happened." Tim tried to respond but was scared that the men would think it was his fault.
"It's alright sir, pack up your bag. You may go home and get some rest." The man said. The words themself sounded like he was trying to be nice, but how he said them didn't sound comforting at all.
"A-are you sure?" Tim continued in confusion. They didn't seem mad at least.
"Yes." The man stated bluntly.
"B-but doesn't y-you want to know," Tim went on. He was confused. Didn't they want to know what happened? Why did they seem to already know this was going to occur?
"No, I don't need to know anything. Now stop questioning me and go." The man said. Tim didn't think he could get any harsher than before, but the man certainly did.
"Ok," Tim said slowly not wanted to anger the man in front of him. He didn't seem too strong, but the men to his sides could easily know o him out in one punch. They were at least three inches taller than him and looked a lot stronger too.

" I went home for the night, obviously extremely confused. The thing I saw the rats do was probably the weirdest thing I've seen in my life; for those men and my boss to just act so calmly, about what happened... It was like they knew it was going to happen. They didn't seem phased at all. They didn't even want to know what happened." Tim's dad took a breath to regain his thoughts.
"I remember not sleeping well that night. I got a call that morning from my boss telling me they were laying me off. He said something about having too many workers and not enough jobs to give them. I don't remember the exact details, but I realized I had forgotten my coat the night pryer. When I went to get my coat, I noticed the recorder was still going. We always video the experiments so that if we need to go back and see what happened we could."
—————-
Tim looked around. He wanted to know what had happened. Maybe he should take the recorder. Tim slide the small metal device into the bag But wouldn't that make me a criminal? Tim thought to himself. Well, what these people are doing doesn't exactly seem right either.
Before Tim got the chance to think through his options, a voice interrupted his thoughts.
" No one is allowed in here, sir." It was one of the taller men from the night before.
" Sorry, I left my coat here last night"
Oh, your the one who was working on this study case. The man responded like he remembered something. Tim thought he saw the man glance up at the spot where the recorder was located
Oh, no. What if he notices?
"Well, you got what you need, yay? So your gonna need to leave" The man responded.
Tim sighed out a breath he didn't know he was holding. He must not have noticed the recorder.
The man stared at Tim waiting for him to move towards the door.
I guess I have to take the recorder now Tim thought.
——-
"When I got home, no one was home. I hadn't got the chance to tell your mother anything. That particular day are schedules had aligned so that we both didn't get to see each other. I turned on the recorder and listened to it as I looked through job applications. I don't know exactly what I was listening for. After a while, of listening I heard the men say something that...
—————-
"What I'd that man that was here earlier is suspicious of something?" One of the men said scratchily through the recorder.
Tim froze knowing they were talking about him
"Hopefully he doesn't, but if he questions us or tries to look into what we're up to we'll just kill him." Another man replied, Tim, recognized him as the shorter one who talked to him.
Kill him? Would they kill him?
