New clutched the box of cookies closer to his chest as he made his way towards the school gym. Despite his lack of sleep as he had to wake up earlier than usual to bake, he was still able to plaster a wide grin on his face.
It was Valentine's day and per tradition, the school organized an activity for the said day.
He straightened his blue shirt, a color assigned to those who were secretly in love with someone, before fixing his hair that had gone disarray due to the wind.
He was about to confess to Tay, their school band's guitarist and at the same time his classmate for four years.
He wasn't really expecting much, but he was hoping Tay would acknowledge his feelings for him. They'd be graduating in several months and he wanted Tay to at least know that he'd been in love with him for years.
He slowly peeked inside and saw Tay tuning his guitar. With him were his bandmates Off and Arm who were bickering about something. New noticed that Tay was still in his uniform and he couldn't help but be curious as to what color he'd be wearing during their performance.
With quivering hands, he slowly approached the group. Never in his lifetime did he ever confess to anyone and just the mere thought of telling Tay his feelings was enough to make his stomach churn and his breathing inconsistent.
He hid the box of cookies behind his back and silently prayed that the remaining string of courage he had wouldn't run out that easily.
"T-Tay."
Off and Arm all looked at him, but Tay's eyes remained fixed on his guitar.
"I-I like you!" he exclaimed with his eyes closed as he handed him the box of cookies.
His heart was thumping as he waited for Tay to look at him and receive his gift. But his arms had already gone numb, Tay still didn't receive it. He slowly opened his eyes and he was disheartened when Tay didn't even bother looking at him.
"Off, Arm, let's go. Our performance is about to start."
New bit his lips when Tay rose from his seat and headed towards the exit.
"Uhm, I'm sorry. We'll give him this for you," Off grabbed the box of cookies from him and followed Tay.
