The orphanage

Nestor lived in an orphanage for most of his life. He couldn't remember anything before it, but he didn't bother finding out. Contrary to popular beliefs, the orphanage was a safe place. The owner and workers were nice people. And Nestor loved it there.

"--Nestor! Wake up!" Was the first thing he heard after a deep sleep.

Startled, he fully woke and sat up, rubbing his eyes. Stood at the foot of his bed was another orphan, twelve-year-old Danteh.

"Geez Danteh," He sighed, "It's Sunday, I need my sleep. The sun hasn't even come up yet," He stretched his arms, his muscles strained then relaxed.

Danteh rolled his eyes,  "It's your eleventh birthday, so of course you have to wake up early."

"Well did I wake you up on your birthday?" The twelve-year-old only had his birthday a week before his.

He didn't answer and Nestor laughed, "That's what I thought."

"Yeah yeah, whatever. Come on, I wanna hangout!" Danteh exclaims as he grabbed Nestor's arm and pulled him out of bed.

"Hey, let go! I can walk you know!" Danteh chuckled at this, and continued to drag Nestor to the rooftop of the orphanage. They sat down, looking out onto the sunrise.

"Heh, best place to go to watch the sunrise, right Nestor?" His eyes gleamed, as the sun fully rose.

"Yeah, sure," Nestor replied.

After a short moment, they both stood back up and decided to head down to the cafeteria.

"Come on, we can be first to the cafeteria-'' Nestor mumbled to Danteh before cutting his sentence.  Looking behind him, he saw two owls, both with letters in their mouth, perched on the rooftop railing.

"..What's two owls doing here, and with letters in their mouth?" He asked the older, who gave a panicked smile.

"I-It's probably nothing. Come on, I wanna eat," He tried to lead him back to the stairs.  Rather than following, Nestor went towards the two owls, and the one on the left with a white coat of feathers put the letter in his hand.

Danteh was surprised, and walked towards him. He thought to himself,

"Oh. Well that explains why there were two owls rather than one. "As he stood beside Nestor, the second owl, this time with a brown coat dropped its letter onto danteh's hands.

"Heh, thanks little guy!" Danteh smiled, before the owl flew away. The other stared at the interaction, with utter confusion reflected on his face,

"Wait, do you know those owls?"

"You'll figure it out, just read the letter."

He says to Nestor as he opens his letter.

He rolled his eyes, chuckling a little bit, "You're playing a prank on me, aren't you Danteh."

"I'm not, Nestor. Just read the letter."

But he shakes his head,

"I'm not falling fo-"

"JUST. OPEN. THE LETTER." Danteh basically yelled in Nestor's ear, then he burst into laughter.

It caught him off guard, covering his ears.

Nestor replied to this with an annoyed tone, "Fine.. Fine."

As he opened the letter, he read out in his mind the contents of it.

"Wait what."

Nestor said after reading the letter, looking up at the older orphan.

He rubbed the back of his neck and muttered,

"It's a lot to take in, I know."

Nestor thought, cogs turning in his brain,

"So that's where you were when you said you got taken into a foster family, that was all a cover up for this?"

"Yep, and I suggest you read the second page."

"What's with the weird names?" Nestor asked, scanning the list of equipment we need for this, "school".

"Eh, pen-names, I suppose," he tucked his letter back in the envelope.

The other did the same, "Where would we buy all this stuff? We don't even have the money."

"Relax, the school has a vault of money we can take from to buy, and we'll buy the stuff in Diagon alley."

"I still think this is a prank." Nestor eyed the letter, the more he looked at it, the more it looked real.

"It's not, I have proof, follow me." Danteh said, heading downstairs to his dorm.

Nestor followed.  He pushed the door to the room and headed straight to the closet. He rummaged through the mess that was in there and pulled out a book,

"Here, I got my old 1st year books." He showed it to him, the book was titled, "A History of magic."

Nestor was still confused. He didn't know what to feel about this new school. Magic? He thought it was only fictional. But Danteh seemed serious about it.

"Now come on, I'll explain on the way."
