I woke up to the beam of light shining down on me from the hole in my roof. I got off the small mattress on my floor that I call a 'bed' and went in the shower. I then got dressed and had my breakfast. My mam had left a note on the kitchen counter saying "Thomas, I'm very sorry, but, we couldn't buy you anything for packed lunch this morning. Last night, when you were sleeping, your dad had suffered from a major heart attack. We had to pay for the hospital bill and all the money we had left was your packed lunch money. The doctor explained in great detail that your dad has a 10% chance of surviving. I'm sorry for the bad news, I love you Tom." A stone-cold tear dived out of my eye and slid down my check; I was very upset. My bag was sitting on the mat in front of my door; I picked it up and left my house with no going back. I hopped onto my bike and started peddling, anticipating what waited ahead of me.
