Kimiko and Yuki stood guard as the Night students began their dangerous trek out of their dorms and towards the school. Day class girls lining the way, squealing and calling out to the beautiful boys, trying to offer gifts and presents and chocolate as the two school guardians attempted to keep them back. Christmas was a bad time of year, close in rank to Valentine’s Day.
“Oh thanks, thank you! Thanks so much, cutie!” Aido said as he kindly accepted the gifts of the frantic girls. “Oh, you’re too kind; thank you so much. Perhaps you could come by later tonight and I could properly thank you…”
“Aido, behave yourself!” Kimiko shouted over at the flirtatious vampire, seductively leaning closer to the unsuspecting Day class student.
“Aw come on, school prefect, I’m just having a little fun with these most beautiful Day class girls,” Aido said cheerfully, waving and blowing kisses. The group erupted in a crazy need to be close to the adorable Night class student.
One girl in particular got too carried away and tried to get around some of the others, but ended up getting pushed to the ground.
“Hey, be careful! Everyone, please settle—” Kimiko’s thoughts and words stopped abruptly. A metallic, acidic, sweet, addictive smell wafted into Kimiko’s nose, distracting her every thought and action, her other senses only tuning in to this incredible sensation. Her sense of logic left her as she turned and saw the girl who had fallen, cradling her scraped knee. The prefect’s eyes widened at the sight of the crimson liquid, her mouth salivating already and her muscles tensing. Every bone, muscle and tissue screamed for that substance, pleaded for it. She wasn’t going to live until she had it.
Blood.
Before her body could even properly tense to move forward, Kaname had grabbed Kimiko and quickly moved her away. The fan-girls were too distracted to notice as the Night class student president led the now struggling Day class school guardian away from the girl’s scraped knee.
“Kimiko, it’s alright now. Focus. Take some of these.” Blood tablets were pressed to Kimiko’s lips. She moved her face away violently, wanting the real thing, not some fake substitute. She wanted to put her lips to real flesh, feel the warm liquid pulse into her mouth and down her throat, feel the human’s heart beat in her veins as Kimiko drained every last succulent drop.
Kaname put his hand to her face and forced her to look at him. Her eyes were wide and desperate, red like the blood on that girl’s knee, like the blood she so desperately wanted. He put a tablet to her lips and pressed it into her mouth. Reluctantly she allowed it into her mouth. Immediately the sensitive and desperation died down. It was still there, but Kimiko could think again.
“K…Kaname-sama?” Kimiko whispered. Kaname just handed her some more tablets. Sighing, Kimiko took them from him palm and swallowed them all down at once, not bothering with letting them dissolve in water first.
“Thank you,” she said, her voice hoarse and quiet. Her cheeks were hot and red, she knew and she couldn’t help feeling embarrassed. The cravings were getting harder to ignore and coming on more and more frequently. It scared Kimiko, and though she was grateful for Kaname’s help, she was kind of embarrassed about him seeing her this way. He might think she’s just some crazed Level E…which she kind of was turning into.
“Hey, are you okay Kimiko?” Kimiko and Kaname turned to see Yuki coming over, looking concerned. “I saw Kaname-sama take you away, so I just…” She trailed off, looking uncomfortable. Mentioning the constant bloodlust that Kimiko was feeling, indicating her descent to Level E, was kind of a touchy subject. “Well, good news is I got the Night class safely to their classes and made everyone go back to their dorms. All by myself since a certain someone decided not to show up; the lazy jerk!” Kimiko chuckled and Yuki soon joined in. Zero was always late to guardian duty.
