"Jimin you can't just stay quiet! You have to tell him!"
"I can't Tae, I love him!"
"Then tell him! If you loved him you would let him know, you wouldn't just disappear!"
Jungkook paused outside the practice room door.
Taehyun, who was walking past, closed his water bottle's cap. "They've been screaming for the past three minutes, are they okay?"
"Yea, I'll go check on them," Jungkook assured.
"Alright."
The maknae leaned against the door again. He probably should've barged in, but with the way everyone had been suspiciously tiptoeing around him lately, the only way he would know what was going on was to eavesdrop, even if it was wrong.
"Just say something! You want the last thing you leave Jungkook with to be the fact that you never said goodbye?!"
Jungkook froze.
"What am I even supposed to say?! 'Sorry, I've been in love with you for the past five years but don't worry, I know you don't like me back because I'm dying!'"
Suddenly Jungkook forgot how to breathe.
"I know it's hard and confusing but you can't just lie until the surgery. You can't just leave him like that."
No. No way was this happening.
"Tae it's already hard enough doing this. I don't want to leave him at all. I don't have a choice."
Fuck it.
"But you have a choice when it comes to telling him-" Taehyung was cut off with the door slamming open. Jimin's mouth went dry.
"Seriously?" Jungkook didn't even know what he was asking. He didn't know what he expected as an answer either.
"Jungkook..." Jimin whispered. His eyes were filled with terror.
Jungkook bolted out the door.
"Kook wait!" he heard Taehyung call after him. He threw himself into an empty elevator, hitting the roof button because he needed air, he needed to breathe but his lungs were not having it. His head was spinning, trying to make sense of what he just heard.
What it sounded like, (but definitely couldn't be), is that Jimin liked him. Like that. And...had Hanahaki Disease.
But that didn't add up. Because if there was one thing Jungkook was sure of after weeks upon weeks of confusing and re-evaluating himself, it was that Jimin was much more than a hyung. And...maybe he wasn't the token straight after all.
The elevator door opened out onto the roof and Jungkook ran out, going straight across, clutching the railing and taking deep breaths. He looked out onto the skyline, trying to focus on one building in the distance and get his thoughts into order.
Technically, he didn't know that Jimin was sick. All he knew was that Jimin liked him, he was leaving, and was getting surgery. Meaning...he was definitely sick and Jungkook was just deluding himself.
But he couldn't do much else. Not only was it hard to believe that Jimin, who had been by his side for years, was dying but as he thought before, it didn't make sense.
Yoongi came out a few months before debut, and that had caused some domino effect on his hyungs, each of them eventually admitting that they were, in fact, not straight. Jin and Namjoon had even been hiding a relationship for weeks. Jungkook had happily accepted his position as token straight of their friend group.
