The Job

"Lu-chan!" I called, separating myself from Jet and Droy as soon as I entered the guild.
She looked furious at somebody. It wasn't hard to guess who, all I needed to do was look at Natsu, who was looking away in -wait- in shame? She must have chewed him out good. Lucy , panting from all her shouting, looked happy for a distraction.
"Hello Levy-chan! How are you?" She inquired, walking away from Natsu, who still looked slightly ashamed of himself.
" Great! By the way," She lowered her voice," How is your novel going? I'm tired of going on jobs with quarreling Jet and Droy, there's nothing much to do." Lucy smiled sympathetically.
" I'm almost done. Hang in there. Anyways, as I was just saying to that idiot," She tugged her head in Natsu's direction," we should go on a job! I need rent money and you need something to do, so how about our teams go on a combined mission?"
Natsu seemed to take this as an opportunity to regain Lucy's favor. He jumped up and fist pumped, spewing fire into the air. The only problem was, he jumped onto Erza's cake.
" NATSU DRAGNEEL, YOU BAKA!" Erza yelled, requiping into her flame empress armor. She gave him a firm punch, putting him off balance and knocking him off the counter he was on, so quick he couldn't stop it.
Lucy sighed in exasperation, and turned to me with a pleading look, " please, Levy-chan?"
" Sure. I'd like to see how our teams work together," I smiled, and the jumped. Mira was right behind me, with a devious grin on her face.
" Actually, Jet and Droy are both unable to go on a mission," She said, in a seemingly bad phone operator falsetto. A feet behind her, Jet and Droy were bound and gagged, shaking their heads rapidly. Mira shot them a look and went on,
" So, I was looking around for a replacement and I have one. Gimme a sec," she ran off and came back lugging an extremely disgruntled Gajeel.
" Devil-woman! Let go of me!" He yelled, and Levy could have sworn she heard him mutter, 'At least not infront of the Shrimp.'
" Oh hush, Gajeel, get up and regain your dignity. You were so eager minutes ago," She scolded, as a faint blush spread across his cheeks.
He jumped up and glared at her as he dusted himself off. Lily flew in and landed on Gajeel's shoulder, nibbling on a kiwi. Levy took the moment to regain her senses. Gajeel was blushing. He had been eager to go on a job with her! 'Well, not just with her,' she quickly reminded herself.
" What 'eager'? I just didn't want Salamander to bet more people up than me," He grumbled, not looking at Levy.
Levy didn't know exactly why, but her heart seemed to fall. Lucy and Mira winced, and again she didn't know why.
" Anyways," Mira went on loudly, " I have the perfect job for you all! There's a dark guild with an important magical object, a lacrima, actually. Master says it's pretty dangerous, and they've set up a lot of protection runes and traps. Perfect for you all, and its a big job, so it's great for a lot of people. There's also a huge reward!" Mira informed,
"Wait a minute, just what kind of lacrima is it?" Everybody turned to Erza, who had finally spoken ever since she knocked Natsu out.
" Classified," Mira smirked. ," Also, before you all go, I want to talk to Gajeel and Natsu..."

Gajeel POV-
I walked after the barmaid with Salamander, grumbling. How could she drag me like that, and in front of the shrimp! How will she ever think I'm tough now?!
It was true. I had been eager to go on a mission with shrimp. I had realized I cared about her when she pushed me out of the way, preventing me from turning into a constellation. Nobody had ever done something like that for me. And she was smiling.
She was cute and smart, not to mention delicate. Every time I saw her a monster reared up in me, wanting to hold her and show the world I'm hers. "Ok," The bar maid started with a raised finger," So on this mission, I expect you all to take care of your mates-"
" MATES?! WHAT MATES?!" Salamander shrieked, getting stares and snickers.
" Shut up, Salamander," I gritted my teeth and looked back at Mira," They aren't our mates, but we'll look after them because they're nakama,"
"Oooh!" She squealed and pulled out a couple of necklaces," You'll also give them these!"
We looked closer at the pendant of each necklace and then yelled together.
" But that's Igneel!"
" But that's Metalicana!"
