Kate was gasping for air as she leaned against a near by tree. I can't stay here long! he'll find me. She thought as she tried to catch her breath. Im gonna die...Im gonna die in the middle of the woods and no one is gonna know what happened to me. As she peered around the thick trunk of the sequoia, she let out a loud scream seeing the-
"Leaf! get in here!" My mom yelled, interrupting my horror binge.
"What?" I yelled back, closing my book and setting it on my bed.
"I said get in here. Im not coming to you!" Ladies and gentlemen, the perfection that is my mother. I got up and walked into the living room.
"Where are you?" I asked looking around for a few minutes.
"Library!" At least she was in a good room.
I walked in then asked "Huh?"
"You left all your books out so as a punishment, you need to clean the books, which means picking up each and everyone of them and dusting them off. Even the nonfiction books." My mom told me. I hate cleaning out library, it was huge and it really sucked.
"But it's Saturday. Why can't I do it tomorrow?" I asked just wanting to get back to my book.
"Because, tomorrow's Sunday. We have church, our family reunion, and if you don't do it today, ill put a lock on the library door and I'll take your phone for two weeks." She threatened me. The library was a mess anyway. There was dust everywhere. It's about time for it to be cleaned again. I don't understand how it got so dirty, my mom and I are the only people who come in here anyway.
"Fine. I'll clean it. Can you at least bring me some rags? There's dust EVERYWHERE." I said not wanting to walk all the way across our house just to get rags that would be dirty soon anyway.
"Okay, Thanks Branch." I hated it when she called me that, just because she thinks it's cute that my name is leaf.
"Can you please not?" I asked, crinkled my nose as I began moving books back to their proper place.
"But it's so tempting my green-girl." My eyes got big. The only person who's ever called me that was my sister. She moved out a year ago when she turned 18, leaving just my mom and I in the house.
"Don't even." Even when my sister called me that I hated it. I have no idea why either, I just really didn't like the nicknames my family gave me. They just so happened to be super embarrassing. Especially when we were in the middle of school an they yell it at the top of their lungs for everyone to hear.
"Okay I'm going." My mom laughed out as she walked out.
"Thanks love you!." I yelled after she closed the heavy cherrywood doors.
"Love you too leafy!" She yelled back. Leafy was the only nickname I considered socially acceptable. I sighed as I started putting books up onto their proper shelf.
I loved my life. This small quiet town and all of the tall trees around. My mother and I are the only people who live in this big house, but I love it. The library was by far my favorite room. Here I could lose myself so easily and disappear into whatever book I happened to be reading at the time, leaving behind all of the worries in this world for a while. It's here behind these heavy doors, where the scent of evergreens seems to pulse through the air, that I come for comfort. I can forget every aspect in the world outside and travel anywhere without going anywhere and do whatever I want. This is my safe haven.---Short chapter but I'm working! Slowly but surely! And trust me it gets more interesting later I promise. Slow intros sorry! love you people!
