irretrievably in love

THE TRAIN RIDE HAD FELT LONGER THAT YEAR, Marie, Lily, Marlene, and Rana not winding up in the Marauders compartment for the first time since their second year. Both compartments were quiet, both groups oddly silent avoiding the elephant in the room that was Sirius and Marie's break up.

The Marauders and the girls were friends, often venturing off together on Hogsmade weekends, and falling asleep together in the common room.  When the pair initially split it was at the end of the school year, only a few days before they went home so it was easy to keep the two separate.

It was different now, as they had a whole year ahead of them and two friends who wouldn't look each other in the eye, much less actually speak to each other.

"YOU ALRIGHT PADFOOT?"
James had said, giving his friend a wary look, as Marie had walked by their train compartment  without sparing Sirius a second glance.

Marie Pettigrew had changed over the Summer. The blonde girl had always been mischievous,
having a knack for seeing just how high she could roll her school skirt, without being reprimanded by professor Mcgonogall. Or using her school tie as a hair ribbon (though that was in part due to the fact she never learned how to
tie a tie the proper way). She would smoke on the astronomy tower past curfew, and she was always open to helping the marauders out with one of their infamous pranks.

She had tamed down a bit though when she started dating Sirius.  It wasn't that he forced her, it was just a subconscious thing. He taught her how to tie her school tie the proper way, leaving her loose curls down for Sirius to play with in class whenever he got anxious. She stopped rolling her skirt as high because she found she would much rather spend time with her boyfriend, than with Mcgonogall in detention. She stopped smoking because she and Sirius agreed they wanted to grow old together, and they couldn't do that if they were dead from lung cancer. Marie never stopped helping out with pranks though, as she never tired of running from Filch, or Lucius Malfoy hand in hand with her boyfriend, finding refuge in a random broom closet until they were sure they had lost them.

Now that her and Sirius were broken up however, she had returned to her old mischievous self. She may not have been in a mini skirt at the moment, but her bell bottoms hugged her bum just right, and her white top, showed just enough cleavage to drive Sirius wild.

She had topped it all off with bright red lipstick, that was slightly smudged, though it wasn't from snogging like Sirius and most had assumed. No, she had purposely smudged it just a bit in the bathroom with a tissue to convince her ex boyfriend, and herself, that she was over him.
That was far from the truth however, and she'd slept in his old t-shirt all summer, not that she would ever tell that.

No, as far as Sirius was concerned she was completely over him, and had gotten with someone in the train bathroom.

She knew it was pathetic, but she'd also heard the rumors of him and his muggle summer fling, (though that's all they were, rumors. Spread by Sirius himself as a way to try and get Marie running back to him. It was stupid and believe me, he knew.) and she had too much pride to let him be the only one moving on.

They were both stupid, pathetic, and all the while still irretrievably in love with each other, both yearning for the other.

It was going to be a long year.

SHE SPEAKS!
i'm not super happy with how this turned out, but i really wanted to finally start serendipity!! the next chapter will kinda introduce you to their characters a lil more but i felt like i still had to kinda highlight their current situation in a bit more depth:)
