They walked beside the creek beds they'd turned up, unaware of the time, until she got a phone call.

It was two a.m., and they were riding in his truck, and all she needed was him next to her. They arrived at the hospital at two thirty a.m., and picked her mum up.

That night they had their very first fight, the slamming of doors instead of kissing goodnight.

"I'm sorry," he whispered down the phone, sitting on her porch stairs. She was quiet, but he knew she was there. "I love you."

He stayed outside till the morning light, and when her mamma saw him, she smiled, rolled her eyes, and said, "oh, my my my."
