Tango backstory? Anyways, I'm pretty proud of this one
TRIGGERS
None, I think?
Let me know if I missed any triggers tho
Prompt: None
Fire. That was all Tango knew. He was born into the hellish landscape of the nether, Or perhaps born was the wrong word. He had never met any sort of parent, or any other player. Growing up among the lava lakes, cracked, smouldering hot netherack and the disagreeable piglins and zombie pigmen, all he knew was that he must have appeared at some point, but his earliest memories were fuzzy, as any child's were. He barely remembered another figure, leaving him in a lava pool when he was just a toddler. He didn't know why he existed but as far as he was aware he had no purpose. The nether was a barren waste with thick, ash-filled air.
As he stomped his way across the cracked netherack to try and find some warped fungi he heard something that shocked him to his very core. Was that, Voices?!..... Tango had grown up alone so he had never learned any type of language, or any social skills whatsoever.
He quickly darted down behind a basalt pillar and peeked out through a crack. There were two voices, one sounding a little smoother, while the other was very chipped. They were taking turns to speak, occasionally making high jerky noises that Tango made when he was amused, and Tango listened, fascinated. He peeked a little more over the rock to get a better view of the pair.
In his excitement, he was careless and pushed against the basalt. The brittle pillar made a creaking sound, and Tango grabbed at the pillar but it was too late. Cracks shot up the pillar before it fell creating a huge BANG and a cloud of ash. Tango lost his balance and fell headfirst out into the open.
He panicked, not sure if the two figures would hurt him or not. Just to be safe, he curled into a defensive ball with his hands wrapped around his head. He glanced up and saw the two figures slowly advancing towards him. In a panic, he scrambled untidy to his feet and whirled around to face them. They both stopped in their tracks and glanced unsteadily at each other. Tango hissed loudly at them and bared his fangs. Only his tail, lashing wildly against the netherack, gave his fear away.
POV IMPULSE
ALSO CHANGE TO FIRST PERSON BECAUSE I DIDN'T NOTICE TILL I FINISHED IT
I laughed good-naturedly at Zeds joke, before hopping elegantly over a lava pit. Zed was attempting to navigate his way around the basalt pillars, far less gracefully, occasionally cracking a joke. Every few seconds, he would break off small portions of the pillars as he jumped from one to the other.
"Why can't these- AHHHHH. Stupid pillars just- STAY STILL" He half yelled in a very girly squeal as he leapt to the next pillar. Beneath his feet, another piece of basalt fell into the lava lake
"Why don't you try being more graceful next time Zed!" I laughed up at him
"I am PERFECTLY GRACEFUL THANK YOU VERY MUCH" He glared at me indignantly
"Sure, sure" I mused, laughing
Suddenly, my laugh died in my throat as one of the pillars came crashing down right where Zed had just been standing, creating a massive BOOM and sending a mushroom cloud of dust.
"Zed, are you OK?!" I called out, not being able to see him in the dust
"I-I'm OK, just a little shaken" Zed responded, before coughing a little in the dust
I walked over to him and pulled him to his feet. We both looked at each other, taking inventory of each other's injuries. Hermits had a tendency to hide their pain from each other (OHH ANGST STORY IDEAS YES), often you had to physically drag them to be healed or take a break. Zed had a few scratches but seemed to be in good shape.
I glanced to where the pillar fell from, there was a gaping hole, and what seemed to be a.....
A player?! I glanced sideways at Zed, who's expression of concern and bewilderment mirrored my own. They were hunched over, curled up into a protective ball. From what I could see, they wore long red robes with gold accents. A puff of explosive golden hair was visible, with two long curved red horns protruding from between the silky strands. They also had a long red tail with a curved point, which was lashing on the ground.
Abandoning caution, I started to slowly edge closer to the hunched-over figure, making sure to make no sudden movements. Zed started to follow my lead, treading slowly and cautiously on the crunchy netherack.
Suddenly, the figure got to their feet. When they looked at me, I felt my blood run cold. Their eyes were pure red, and from what I could see, they were filled with fear.
"HSSSSSSSSSSSSS!" They hissed threateningly, baring sharp fangs at me and Zed, making me jump out of my skin. I made direct eye contact with him and held up my hands to show I meant no harm. This seemed to confuse him more than it did reassure him, and he furrowed his brows, looking at me and at Zed.
"Hey now, we're not going to hurt you" I murmured calmingly "Can you understand me?"
The figure made a few garbled noises, before kicking the ground in frustration. He waved his hands around, before slumping to the ground in defeat.
I looked at Zed, and we both moved towards him, sitting on either side of him on the hot netherack. He froze, looking me dead in the eyes. I raised my arms and wrapped them around him. On his other side, Zed did the same, enveloping him in a warm, comforting hug. He seemed to melt at the touch, burying his face in the warmth. From over his shoulder, Zed mouthed at me, grinning.
"Can we keep him?"
Hope you enjoyed some Tango backstory. I might make a few more oneshots explaining Team ZITS backstorys? Let me know if that sounds like something you'd be interested in. Or maybe one where they take Tango to the overworld and he becomes facinated with everything?
