A sudden jolt fished me out of my sleeping state. I woke with a start, forgetting everything for a moment. Then my head began to ache as all the memories of the night before came flooding back to me.

As my eyes adjusted to the room's bright light, I could make out two figures in the corner. After a few moments, I realized it was Liam and Louis. They were both on a couch, Liam upright and awake while Louis was sprawled over him fast asleep.

"Good to see you're awake," said Liam. "We were worried you weren't going to wake up. Here, drink some water." He motioned to the nightstand beside the bed.

"How long have I been unconscious?" I asked, sitting up and rubbing my head. I took a glass of water from the nightstand and sipped thoroughly until the pain in my head somewhat diminished.

"About 24 hours, but you really needed the rest," he explained.

"24 hours?" I gasped. Of all the things that could've happened...

I lifted up my hand and winced. The whole thing was bandaged up and hurt like heck. The bloodstains were evident on the white bandage, too.

I swore under my breath. This sucked.

Just then, Louis snored so loudly he woke himself up.

"Who? Huh? What?" he spit out.

Liam chuckled and shook his head. In the daylight, he looked rather attractive. His chocolate eyes were glowing and he smiled a cute little half-smile at me.

I snapped back to reality and tried to shake those thoughts from my head. Are you crazy? You don't even know this guy! You shouldn't even be here! Remember why you left home in the first place?

"Um, thanks for everything, guys, but I really have to get going as soon as possible," I said.

"But you just got here!" Louis exclaimed. "And you're injured!"

The two boys looked at me quizzically while I shifted uncomfortably under their stares.

"Well, I just, feel bad about taking advantage of your hospitality," I lied.

"Don't be," said Liam. "You desperately needed it."

"And now it's time for some questions," Louis interrupted, raising an eyebrow.

I began to involuntarily tremble. "Wh-what kind of questions?" I squeaked.

"Don't worry, love," Liam reassured. "Nothing too painful, I promise."

We'll see about that, I thought.

"Seriously, I have to go," I repeated.

"Go where?" Louis asked.

"That's none of your concern!" I yelled, giving myself another headache in the process.

"Well, you aren't in any condition to leave anytime soon," Liam stated in a matter-of-fact tone. Then, he turned towards the door and yelled, "Come here, lads! She's awake!"

In a matter of seconds, Harry, Zayn, and Niall zipped through the bedroom door.

"Hooray!" Niall cheered.

"Yeah, whoopee," I grumbled. I didn't know if I was even ready to confess anything yet, especially to strangers.

"So," Harry began, sitting on the end of the bed, "anything you'd like to tell us?"

"Like why you were running towards our bus in the middle of the street at two in the morning," Zayn interrupted.

"And how you were shot," Niall said.
