Hermionie's POV:

You wouldn't believe me if I said that the harderst part of the mission happened after we suceeded.

Yes, it all worked out. Draco caught the actual Alison, blah blah, blah. Something just didn't feel right about the whole thing.

When I went to meet with Dumbledore after bumping my head on a banister while trying to navigate the sleeping body of Alison down to her Slytherin dorm, I knew he would give me answers.

He was sitting in his office with Tom Riddle's old diary in his hand, flipping through the pages. I could still clearly see the black rip caused by the basilisk's fang that Harry sunk into it during our 2nd year. It seemed almost like a joke how simple things were back then, even though they were extremely frightening. It also seems ridiculous that it only happened 4 years ago. I straightened my jacket and walked into the office.

Dumbledore looked up at me and gave me a sad smile. "Ah, Hermionie dear" he said, "I had a feeling you would swing by."

He stood up from his desk and started towards his pheonix. "Not unlike me, you come searching for answers. We are both people who do not like to not know."

I nodded. "Yes sir."

He continued. "I knew that something had to be wrong with our mission, that their had to be a catch. You see, we cannot change the past, or the present. My dear, we can hardly change the future. Alison was suppose to die that day on the staircase, and we both know it."

My insides tensed. "But Sir, Alison is still obviously alive."

The pheonix bird which had rested so precariously on Dumbledore's shoulder suddenly started to flap its wings fast.

"Down, Heliodorus" said Dumbledore. The bird settled, but still looked uncomforteable.

"Ms. Granger, in that respect you are right. Alison is most definetly alive at this moment. But her being alive thanks to Mr. Malfoy saving her twisted time in such a way, that history now has an altered course. The wizard and muggle world will both be effected because that girl is alive. There is only one way that we can set things right again, and you and I both know what that is."

I wanted to burst into tears. I knew exactly was Dumbledore was suggesting.

"But Sir, there must be another way." Even as the words escaped my mouth, I knew it was silly.

Dumbledore nodded gravely. "I have already consulted with the Minister of Magic and his board, and we have decided this action must be carried out. I persuaded for an extention, but I only recived seven months."

The room started to spin.

"And how will this be carried out?" I asked, my voice full of venom and hatred.

Dumbledore suddenly looked uncomforteable. "That will be decided when the time comes. But for now, it is of the utmost importance that you do not mutter one word of this to Ms. Dern, or anyone outside of this space. Only the Ministry, you and I have permission to know. If anyone else finds out, the Ministry will come for us, and put us in Azkaban for life with no questions asked. Now Ms. Granger, I suggest you go back to bed. It has been a long day for everyone."

I was to shocked to move. Stuttering, I asked for one last favor from Dumbledore. He nodded. "It does not seem like a horrible request, but this will only be effective for the next 7 months. Goodnight, Ms. Granger."

He turned around and walked deeper into his office. I couldn't move. The huge dome ceiling started to cave in. I had never been one to succumb to clausterphobia, but my fears seemed to be suffocating me. For the first time in my life, I truly wished that I did not know something. I wish that I could erase this encounter from my memory. I hated that old wizard for telling me this. How could I possible keep this information for everyone I cared about, especially the people who I was hurting in the process.

I couldn't believe that in seven months, Alison would be dead.
