Never Ended Well
Dad promised to help Jacob's sister. After a month, we were informed na hindi naibasura ang kasong sinampa nila. It was a celebration on the office. Lahat sila masaya para kay SPO4 Jacob Martinez.
"Hey..."
Natigil si Victoria sa pag-inom ng kanyang tubig ng lumapit sa kanya si Jacob. He was holding a paper bag. He have this calm expression na ngayon lang niya nakita sa binata.
"Martinez," she greeted back.
"I just wanna thank you, Ma'am. And also, Judge Victor..." He smiled.
Jacob's been different nitong mga nakaraan. He was getting more calm. Para bang gumagaan ang pakikitungo niya. It was maybe because after months, her sister will get the justice she needs.
"Oh, it's nothing. I hate injustices so..." Nagkibit balikat siya at sumulyap sa hawak na paperbag ng binata.
Jacob also looked at the paperbag and cleared his throat.
"Uhm...this is for your father. Binake ni Janine. Parte ng therapy niya. Mayroon din para sa'yo." Aniya at iniabot ito.
Tinanggap niya ito at tumango.
"Salamat. Paki-sabi na rin kay Janine." She nodded.
Tumango si Jacob at agad ring umalis doon. Nilapitan niya ang ilang nasa selda. Victoria went inside her office to do some works when her phone rang. Kinuha niyo iyon sa bulsa at napangiti ng makitang si Gregory iyon.
"Hi, what's up?" Tanong niya.
"Ikaw, kamusta ka d'yan?" Tanong ni Victoria pabalik.
"What happened, babe? You sound too happy." Ani Gregory.
Medyo maingay ang background ni Gregory. May ilang mga tawanan.
"Okay naman. Nasa training ka?" Tanong ni Victoria.
Tumikhim si Gregory.
"No. Nasa labas kami to get some supplies. Inabutan ng lunch kaya dito sa karinderya kumakain. Ikaw? What happened over there?"
Tori sat on her table.
"We had a simple lunch prepared by Martinez. This time, Jacob's sister can have her way to justice. Jacob gave me a thank you gift for Dad's help." She explained.
Ever since, she was honest about everything happened. If she wanted this to work, they both need to be transparent. Hindi madali ang trabaho at pakikipagrelasyon kaya dapat maging maingat. She always updated him of what happened to ger day kahit pa minsan ay hindi nakakareply ang binata.
Tumahimik ang linya.
"What gift? Hmm..." Tanong ni Gregory.
Tiningnan ni Victoria ang paperbag. Kinuha niya iyon at binuksan. May tatlong box ng cookies doon.
"Oh, heart-shaped cookies and..."
"And?" Tanong ni Gregory.
"Thank you note. Yun lang naman." Victoria answered.
