TW// death, blood, weapon usage, possible derealization, lots of angst
"You know what's coming, Will" Shelby spoke in a hushed tone as she glanced at her surroundings before returning her gaze to Wilbur.
"We can stop this. He may be a tyrant but I won't let him win this game of chess so easily. He may have us 'Checkmated' but I won't surrender my king that easily," Wilbur urged as he grabbed Shelby's hands in his. Hers petite, compared to his large calloused ones. They stood under the vast expanse of the Dream SMP night sky, the stars seeming to dance along the horizon. They stood overlooking the ocean, the waves rising and falling in a hypnotic rhythm, a place unbeknownst to others but themselves, or so they thought.
"Wilbur, whatever happens, you need to accept it. This was going to happen at some point or another. I knew the consequences and I put you in danger, you need to let me do this." Her eyes seemed distant and glassy as they fell into the trance of the tempestuous nature of the crashing waves.
"Shelby..." Wilbur spoke with the same soft gentle voice as the waves, gently breaking on the sand and ebbing away back to sea. His voice seemed to creep up the shore but fade away with the same tenderness as when it had crawled on to the translucent glass like beach; the moonlight reflecting off of small shards of sea glass.
Shelby hated seeing him this way. The light fading from his eyes, his typical radiance pouring out of him, swirling into the crisp evening air.
They spoke for seemingly an infinitude, exchanging small reassuring touches on their forearms or cheeks. Their tender but solemn words seemed to pass just underneath the chilling breeze, heard only by them. Their devotion to each other was eminently apparent. Wilbur cradled Shelby's face in his palms, stroking her cheek as his eyes welled with tears. She leaned into it, placing her own dainty fingers on the hand that seemed to be holding her very life together.
The wind seemed to shift as an ominous figure swiftly maneuvered through the forests surrounding the beach. He moved with such stealth that not even the creatures who roamed the outskirts of the beach noticed his presence. He ceased his quick-moving pace as he reached the last line of trees, hiding his figure from anyone who might be able to identify him. An unnerving smirk emerged from this figure's lips. Unbeknownst to Wilbur, Shelby had arranged a deal with this ominous individual. Her time had come but she had requested one thing. To say goodbye to the love of her life. The two loves of her life.
Fundy, around 4 years old, his eyes wide and wondering, had gone off exploring in search of any remnants of crustacean life left in the many tide pools that dotted the shore. He was infatuated with the eco-systems that flourished in such a seemingly insignificant space. His pointed ears were fluffy and full. His crimson coat rustling in the breeze.
Shelby would often turn her gaze from Wilbur to check in on her beloved son. He reminded her so much of Wilbur. Although, he was a fox. Their eyes were both so full of life and determination to do great things. The two of them had always cared too deeply for what they believed and devoted their time to.
Shelby began to recall the many times Fundy would sit on Wilbur's shoulders as the three of them would watch the sunset. The pinks, reds and oranges were a mirage dancing colors in their eyes symbolizing their devotion to a nation that was soon to come. Like all his responsibilities had left with the wind, Wilbur would spin him around on his shoulders. At that moment, the only thing he cared about was his family.
She recalled the warning from Dream. Her species exiled from the Dream SMP centuries ago because he feared their power would rival his. Those immoral and reckless decisions harmed and threatened the life of Shelby's species. One that neared extinction, but still brimmed with the power to call on things beyond their realm. Just like the man that posed a threat to their livelihoods.
