"Well maybe if you weren't a little bitch, you wouldn't have this problem right now!"
"Oh so this is my fault now?!" yelled Frank hotly.
"You totally asked for it," y/n protested, crossing her arms. "I mean, toothpaste in my pillowcase? What are you, five years old? You couldn't come up with something better than that?"
"Bold words coming from someone whose favorite shirt got bleached." Frank smirked despite himself.
y/n set her jaw, angered at the remembrance of the prank that ended in her calling up Frank and chewing him out for thirty minutes straight. Frank had only laughed and told her she deserved it, but that only seemed to make her angrier.
She stomped up to Frank, radiating fire. Frank was momentarily shocked at her passion; it seemed to burn his skin, though she was only a few inches from him.
"Look, Iero," she spat, but anything more that she said was completely unnecessary because there was something different about the way she said his name that made his spine prickle not uncomfortably. It was strange to him; she had called him by his last name probably a million times. Some in anger, some in playfulness, some in competition. He was used to it, but for some reason, this time made him feel ... different.
"...and yeah, maybe I deserved it that time, but you have to admit th-" y/n stopped short amidst her rant and stared at Frank who was staring right back at her, dumbfounded.
"What?" she asked, all the malice from her voice slipping away. She looked around them, wondering if Gerard or Mikey or someone was behind her. But no, they were alone.
"N-nothing," replied Frank nervously, unable to tear his eyes from y/n's face. Her eyes were ablaze and her brows were knitted together.
Suddenly, it seemed to dawn on them just how close they were to each other, and y/n's face heated up. She stepped back, eyes trained on the ground while an awkward pause resounded around them.
Frank's skin was on fire and he didn't know why. Maybe he had gotten sick or something and had developed a fever. His mother was always telling him he had a low immune system, so it could be possible. His stomach felt all fluttery.
y/n sighed and raised her eyes slowly to meet Frank's. Even this much contact seemed tainted somehow... tainted by something that had arisen at that moment just seconds before when they were so close to each other. Immediately, y/n averted her eyes back to the ground and spoke quietly: "Look, I'm sorry, Frank. I think I just got carried away with this whole prank thing and... and it's changed our friendship somehow."
Frank looked quizzical but intrigued. "Changed?"
"Yeah, don't you feel it?" y/n asked, wishing more and more that she would have just kept her mouth shut. Obviously, he doesn't think anything has changed, so now she just made everything extremely awkward.
"I'm sorry, that was weird," y/n stumbled. "I don't mean that it changed changed, as in we're not friends anymore type of thing. I just-"
But Frank was moving closer to her. Pure lightning seemed to crackle between the two. He had this look on his face, this placid yet determined look. Eyes wide, lips slightly parted.
y/n backed up in shock. Her brain wasn't giving her time to process what was happening, perhaps because it already knew what was going to happen. Some part of her could feel it too, could sense that something was going to happen that will change a whole lot of things.
Her back hit the wall. Frank's face was just inches from her own, his body radiating heat. She couldn't tear her eyes away from his, from the way they burned with this insatiable intensity.
"Can I try something?" he asked in the softest voice she had ever heard him use.
She was too stunned to speak. Her fingertips danced at her side, wishing to touch him. She refrained, unsure if it was right.
It all seemed to move in slow motion from there. His hand reached up to hold her face, thumb stroking her cheek softly and slowly. Y/n was paralyzed by something close to fear, but different in the fact that she wanted more, more.
He leaned in and slowly, softly, like the touch of dew on a leaf, touched his lips to hers. Unsure at first how to react, she stayed perfectly still and closed her eyes, feeling his warm mouth on hers. Their lips fit together for a brief, wonderful moment before he pulled away just a little. His breaths were slight against her skin. His calloused fingers brushed against her cheek.
"Was that... was that okay?" he asked quietly.
Her eyes fluttered open and met his. A silent understanding passed through them at once, hitting them like a tidal wave. Before Frank could say anything else, she grabbed him by his collar and pressed her lips to his with a little more firmness than last time. Frank's brows furrowed with pleasure. His hands instinctively touched her waist, hers wrapping around his neck. She leaned back against the wall, inviting his body closer to her while they kissed.
When he pulled away, he beamed at how flustered y/n was and finally he understood.
"Is that what you meant when you said our friendship.. changed?" he asked.
She nodded, breathless. "I was scared to admit it at first. but I guess you felt it too?"
"I - yeah." as embarrassed as he felt, he couldn't deny the fact that his anger toward y/n was a product of repressed feelings, considering how good he felt right now having just kissed her.
"Oh, god," he groaned looking down.
y/n's heart stopped. "What's wrong?" He's regretting it, he's embarrassed and he doesn't ever want to -
"I just realized .. what are the guys gonna say when we tell them about .. us?"
y/n laughed in relief. "In all honesty," she said, "I kind of forgot they existed for a second." Then she stopped and looked Frank right in the eyes. "Wait, there's an us?"
Frank's face burned. "I - I just .. well, would you ... would you like there to be?"
The question made her feel giddy, and she couldn't contain a smile. "Well, you might have to kiss me again to find out."
