When I woke up the next morning, my eyes burned and the skin on my cheeks and around my eyes felt dry and tight. Had I really cried myself to sleep last night? I stretched and looked over at my alarm clock; it was 9:30, I still had some time to sleep before I packed my trunk and opened a portkey home for Christmas. Someone came running into my room and jumped on top of me, and the sudden weight all but crushed me from the chest down. I looked up to see Luna smiling down at me, her curls just barely brushing against my face. I turned over under her.

"Luna, lemme sleep," I grumbled, covering my head with the covers.

"Not a chance. We're going home, why aren't you excited? You mustn't lie around all day," she replies. When I don't move she starts singing in my ear.

"It's a small world after all-"

"Okay, okay! I'll get up. Anything but that song," I groan, taking the blankets off my head. Luna smirks.

"Figured as much," she replied, getting off of me. I sit up and stare at her.

"You're evil," I said. She laughed.

"Only sometimes," she protested, crawling up next to me.

"I'll tell Father Christmas how horrid you were to me and he'll bring you nothing but coal," I joked.

"As long as he's not taking you back to the North Pole with him," Luna replied, pressing a kiss to my cheek and yanking me out of bed. For the first time since I woke up, I notice Evie once again hadn't come back to our room, as her bed was empty. There were only so many nooks and crannies in a castle that a 17-year-old could run off to, and a lot of them fit more than one person. I know that what she does with herself and whom she does it with isn't my business, but I truly was was worried for her. I was sure that if she kept going she would guarantee herself a broken heart, or possibly something far worse.

After I got dressed I hurried around packing my stuff, and Evie's too. She still hadn't come back, so I thought I would help her (only because it was Christmas, though) get some of her clothes packed back into her trunk. We mustn't be late, as mum was waiting for us to come home via portkey and once I was home I couldn't come back even if I needed to; magic outside school grounds was strictly forbidden unless you were of age, which I wasn't. I was the only one in the family who couldn't open a portkey to come back. Evie was 17 so she was allowed to perform magic outside of school, and so could mum. I couldn't wait until I turned 17 so I could finally use magic at home like mum always had. But alas, I had to turn 16 first.

I hastily shoved my stuff into my trunk and Evie's into hers and holy Merlin, she had a lot of clothes. Luna came in and noticed me going back and forth amidst the scattered clothes, shoes, robes, and other miscellaneous items around my room. She shook her head and came up to me.

"Gimme your wand," she said, holding out her hand. Confused, I take the wand off my nightstand and give it to her.

"Pack," she says, and all my belongings rose up from the floor and zoomed into my open trunk, folding and organizing themselves all on their own. I watch, wide-eyed.

"Wicked," I whisper in awe. I go over to Evie's side of the room and look for her wand. I find it in her nightstand drawer, and I give it to Luna so she can pack Evie's trunk too, which she does.

"How'd you learn that?" I ask. Luna gives the wand back to me.

"It was a charm my mum invented," she explains. "Used it all the time to pack everyone's things when we went on holiday." There's no sadness in her voice, but it shows in her eyes. I suddenly felt ridiculous in comparison to her. Luna never cried, not even when we had the scare of our lives in the twins' car, or when she talked about how she missed her mum, or when she broke her wrist falling out of the tree we'd climbed together a few years ago. I, however, had lost count of the number of times I'd broken down in her arms. She looks up at me.
