"That's Dr. Cullen's only true child," the gossip about Dorothea and Jasper began to circulate as they entered the cafeteria. Whispers filled the air, some curious, others speculative. Dorothea, unlike her siblings, held the unique position of being considered the biological daughter of Carlisle and Esme Cullen—her connection to Carlisle had always been particularly special.

She often helped at the hospital, a genuine part of their family in ways others couldn't quite measure. The townspeople were used to seeing her closer to her parents than any of the other Cullen children.

"They say she got her red hair from her late great-grandfather. She's probably the only Cullen you could get close to, but like the rest of them, she's off-limits," someone continued, the tone carrying a mixture of admiration and envy.

Jasper, his arm casually draped around Dorothea's shoulder, leaned in and placed a soft kiss on her lips in response to the gossip, a signal to anyone paying attention that she was indeed claimed. His other hand cupped her chin gently, pulling her close. The moment didn't go unnoticed.

"Jasper Hale... he looks like he's in constant pain, but around Dorothea, he transforms into a different beast," the gossiping voices murmured, as one girl added, "A monster that won't hesitate to hurt anyone who gets too close to her. They literally can't get their hands off each other."

Dorothea raised an eyebrow playfully at the description. Jasper winced slightly at being called a "monster," but the discomfort evaporated as soon as Dorothea's words reached him. "My monster," she whispered, her tone a playful but possessive purr. The declaration sent a warm wave of comfort through him, and the notion of being a "monster" didn't feel so strange when it came from her.

Together, they walked to the table, where their siblings were already seated. Jasper allowed Dorothea to sit first, ever the gentleman, before slipping into the seat beside her. He placed a hand on her thigh, a gentle but possessive gesture as she leaned into his chest, feeling his steady presence beside her. The conversation around them was light and filled with family banter, but Dorothea's gaze soon wandered to Edward, who had just entered the cafeteria.

"Who's he?" A curious voice whispered as Edward took his usual seat, his eyes scanning the room.

"That's Edward Cullen. He's gorgeous, obviously. But apparently, no one here is good enough for him. Like I care," another student added, their tone dripping with disinterest. "Anyway, don't waste your time."

"I wasn't planning on it," Bella muttered, this caused the group of vampires eyes narrowing slightly as they observed the unspoken tension between Edward and Bella. Even though Edward had joined the group, his attention was still fixed on the mortal girl, and the chemistry between them was palpable.

Dorothea couldn't help but lean into Jasper, her voice light but tinged with mischief. "For someone who despised going to school because of her, you sure don't act like it, Eddy."
