Chapter 5
Apparently the news of our break up had spread rather quickly. Everyone I saw patted me on the back or gave me a sympathetic look. The ironic thing was that it didn't phase me, I wasn't upset at all what so ever. But to the people around me I had just been dumped so my girlfriend could go out with the douche that dumped her. If it had been a real relationship, I probably would have need much consoling, but it wasn't so I didn't. Everyone gave it to me anyways. Ben was the worst. He danced around the subject, trying not to say anything that would upset me.
He rubbed the back of his head as he spoke, "So, uh, how is everything going?"
I rolled my eyes, "Ben, you can relax. I know everyone knows that Connor dumped me, and I'm perfectly fine. We were only dating for like a week."
He nodded and let out a deep sigh of relief, "She's kind of a bitch for dumping you on game day though."
"Ben," I scolded, "Don't call her that."
He shrugged, "It's true. This is our first real game of the season. We aren't scrimmaging anymore, this game counts towards our season record. Everyone knows not to dump us before a game. It leaves us mentally unstable and off our game. Especially with you being our best defensive player, it's going to be pretty rough tonight."
I rolled my eyes again, if only he knew. "Do I look mentally unstable to you?"
"Well, you've never had a girlfriend before and the first one you get dumps you within a week, that's got to be pretty rough on your ego. Especially since she's already starting to date what's-his-face."
I gave a small chuckle, "I'm fine, there is nothing to worry about." I shrugged, "I really don't care that much for her. I mean I like her, but I think it's better that we stay just friends."
"You know you could just be saying these things but really you are just bottling up all of your emotions and then right before the game you just let loose into a huge blubbering mess and then we lose."
"I'm starting to sense that you really only care about the game, not my actual emotional state."
He shook his head, "Not true buddy. I love ya like a brother. I seriously don't want to see you hurt."
I smiled, "Thanks, Benny, but really. I'm perfectly fine." I looked up at the clock hanging on the wall behind Ben. "Is that the time? I have to go see Connor."
Ben gave me a puzzled look, "Why? She dumped you."
"I have a test next period and I have to review with her. I'll see you in the locker room after school." I gathered my books as I left a still confused Benny sitting at the lunch table.
I sat down next to Stacy, one of the volleyball players and Connor's friend. I smiled at her when she gave me a confused look, "Hey." I turned my attention to Connor, who had stopped her conversation with Jake and looked at me. "I have a question about physics."
"Shoot."
I pulled out the paper from it's folder. Everyone at her table, and surrounding tables was staring at us. Jake put a protective arm around her. To them the sight before them was strange. I had heard the rumors about spreading about out relationship ending and all of the made up reasons as to why. Between her cheating on me to her being pregnant with Jake's baby to her using me to get Jake jealous. What they didn't know was the latter speculation was true. The other thing they didn't know was that I was using her just as well. I ignored them all and dove into my question, "So my question is on vectors and scalars."
