Chapter 2

I miss my old , low life ,trashy , roach infested apartment , but I don't miss my dad . I look on my track phone to a see what time it is, 5:48 . It is still dark. I look at my reflection on the phone , wow my dad gave me a black eye .

I decide I will take a walk, there is a track here so I will not look like anymore of an idiot than I already do. I pack up my stuff and go.

It is 7:30 and more walkers are walking. An old lady walks up to me and says "what are you doing out here alone ? " I look at her and say "nothing, just a morning walk."

"Ohh my well your eye doesn't look good sweetheart lets go get you cleaned up." "Umm ok."

The lady takes me to her car, it is an old Ford Focus station wagon . It is nicer than our old Geo that had rust holes all over it.

On the ride home she starts a conversation . "So we're you out there all night? " "Yes... why?" I say.

She continues with her questions .
"What is your name ? You can call me Genie." "my name is Kate Lynn" I say as we pull into her drive way.

"Wow I love your house ... it is beautiful . " "Thank you sweetheart but it is nothing great. My grandson is here he is about your age... 15? " "Yes I turn 15 in two months . " "I think you will like him ". I sigh I have never been in love .

"Come on let me get you some dry clothes and some food."

We go into her house, it is an old victorian home and it is HUGE.

She takes me to the bathroom were she shows me where the wash clothes are and how to use the jacuzzi .

"Go on I will get you some dry clothes get a shower." "ok" I say happily "my grandson will be here in an hour so hurry up I want you to look good" she
says .

While I'm in the shower I think about her grandson . What if he is hot, what if he's not ,is he mean,nice , smart, stupid ? Does she want me to like him it seems like it. My head is filled with questions about him.

I wash my hair and sit in the jacuzzi with the jets on. Wow this feels wonderful .

After 5 minutes I decide I should get out. I dry off and Genie had put clothes right outside the door.

I put on the clothes, it is a beautiful, red dress. She also gave me silver high heels to wear and a diamond necklace with a ring .

"I love it " I say when I see her. "you look beautiful darling now let's get you some makeup . She puts bright red lipstick on me along with mascara , blush and silver eye shadow . I look in the mirror and smile.

"Thank you so much but what is this for..." she cuts me off . "No questions. He's here ! " She says excited " sit at the table, I have made lunch for us. You will love him. " she whispers .

I go to the table , five minutes later she comes back with her grandson. He is ... amazing , Blond hair , brownish green eyes , tall muscular and perfect. I don't realize I am staring until he says hi and smiles a to die for smile, I don't know how many girls want him , 900? "Hi" I say back.

He sits next to me at the four person table. Genie serves us chicken salad sandwiches and peas for lunch. We say a prayer before we eat.

"Connor this is Kate Lynn and Kate this is Connor Barley. " "Hi Kate" Connor says and shakes my hand. "hi Connor ." I try to act casual but it is hard.

Genie talks about my story ;what she knows anyway ;and tells Connor . He doesn't say much but he did say the same thing happened to him but he came to his grandma , which was Genie .

After lunch Genie goes and washes the dishes and tells Connor to show me around and get me a room set up.

He takes me to a room on the second floor it has white walls with a queen size bed , two dressers a jewelry box, closet and a bathroom

"Wow " I say amazed . "This is your room Kate , drop your stuff here and let me show you around." Connor says excited .

We go to the room across the hall and it is Connor's room. White walls and king size bed and bathroom . He says the other rooms on this floor are like these . He points to another room and opens the door " this one is Genie's "

We go to the third floor It has a library , living room, conference room, and the maids room and closet.

We go back to the bottom floor , it has a dinning room , kitchen , entertainment room, and a game room. We go outside and she has a big in ground pool, with a sun room and hot tub beside it.

"Where did she get this money for all of this ? My dad worked for his whole life and didn't have a damned penny." Connor laughs .

"Grandpa or his name is Emmier he was a brain surgeon and Genie was a dentist before she retired . And don't say them kind of words around Genie she'll put you on the street again , no offense ." "None taken."
