I'm sorry I always make characters play volleyball. It's just an obsession of mine that reflects in the characters oop.
Klyde: Can I come over, KK? I'm bored.
Kenna: Sure. I'm doing stuff, but I guess you can.
Klyde: Doing stuff as in playing video games?
Kenna: maybe
Klyde: see you soon, KK😘

I pulled into my girlfriends driveway and walked up to her room, greeting her parents first.
"Hey, KK" I said as I entered. She didn't respond. Figures.
I came closer to her and ruffled her shoulder length hair that was originally black, but she dyed most of it bleach blond.
"Klyde I am winning. I can't stop," She grumbled.
"Right. Sorry. I'll just be over here," I frowned and sat down on her bed.
I pulled out my phone and entered a group chat with a few friends on my volleyball team and other volleyball players on teams I was friends with.
Klyde: Guys! Kenna is gonna kill me!
Iwa: Literally? Okay.
Klyde: No not literally. She just won't get off her video games! She never gives me attention!
Toby: Ooh. sOmeONeS JeALouS.
Klyde: No. I just wish she would put down her games some times. Seriously. I'm the one who does everything! I start the kiss, I play with her hair, I come to walk with her to school. I do everything!
Toru: oop
Nick: Here's an idea. Ignore her. Get her to be the one initiate all that stuff or whatever.
Lee: Noooo! That's mean!
Klyde: Ight. But it might work......
Lee: Klyde, my dude, my captain, no.
Turo: It'll just show her how Klyde feels all the time. Right Iwa?
Iwa: I'm not part of this.
Klyde: I guess I could give it a try. I rlly feel bad doing it though.
Nick: Just do it. Try for a week.

I turned off my phone and looked once more at Kenna.
"Hey, I'm gonna head out," I said, and got up, leaving without giving her the usual hair ruffle and kiss.

Kenna pov

I switched my game off and looked toward the door that my boyfriend had just walked out of. He didn't even give me a pat on the head! I jumped up and ran to my window, wondering if maybe he was there and just waiting to jump out and say "Pranked Ya!"
His car was gone.
I sighed and sat back down.
What happened?
The next day, I walked out of my house to, thankfully, find him standing there, ready to walk with me to school.
"Hey Kenna," He greeted.
I was shocked. He doesn't call me Kenna! It's KK! Always has been! That stupid nickname I love and only he's allowed to call me!
We started walking and I tried to not think about Klyde, but it was impossible. I had my Nintendo open and was trying to beat a new level. Klyde didn't say anything. Usually, he hovers over my shoulder, trying to help. In fact, he was standing at least two feet away!
At school, before he left for his class, he typically plays with my hair for a few seconds before kissing me then going on his way.
But today, he just said, "See ya Kenna," and walked off.
I glared at the back of his messy black hair.
Stop ignoring me! I internally whined.
I huffed and walked into my class.
"Hey, Kenna!" One of my friends of my volleyball team, Sonna, said.
"Hey," I muttered and one of the guys on Klyde's volleyball team, Nick, greeted me as well.
"What's up, girl. You look down," Sonna noticed.
"I'm always down," I said in my naturally quiet, monotone voice.
"But you seem extra down today," Another girl on the team, Tam piped in.
"Yeah, we know our setter's moods. You're down as in sad. Something happen with Klyde?" Sonna asked.
"I don't know," I shrugged, "Nick, anything happen with my boyfriend?"
"Your guess is as good as mine," He shrugs.
"That was a pretty sus answer," Tam scanned Nick with a critical eye. Before he could respnd, our teacher walked in.
At practice later that day, I was totally unfocused. One of my sets to Tori, our outside hitter, was so awful I wanted to kick myself.
Let's be clear.
I don't have enough motivation to kick myself normally.
I walked home that night, Klyde with me, as his practice finished at the same time mine did. I was playing on my Nintendo and was getting so ticked off by the amount of space between us. He hadn't said or done anything since we met up!
I tried to pretend like I was veering towards him on accident, because I was focused on my game, but I felt his stiff arm go out and his palm hit my shoulder.
What was this! Social distancing!
"Careful there, Kenna. What have I told you about walking and playing video games: you are going to crash into someone."
He was acting as if we were still just friends, not dating.
We reached my house and he started walking away without a goodbye. I reached out with a nimble hand and tugged at his shirt.
He turned to face me, shocked.
"Do you want to come hang out?" I mumbled. He resumed a neutral face and said, "Sure."
We went to my room and I sat on the floor, playing my video games and Klyde was on his phone.

Klyde pov

I wasn't sure how much more of this I could take! My heart ached every time I saw Kenna. I entered the group chat and started talking with the guys again.
Klyde: guys she invited me over.
Lee: Wow. Huge step
Turo: Seriously.
Klyde: I don't know how much more of this I can take though. I feel so bad.
Nick: Just hold out a little longer. It's been a day and she's already made moves. You're good.
Klyde: I guess.
Nick: and if it's anything to you, she was wondering about you in our first class.
Klyde: Really?
I looked at Kenna sitting on the floor. Could she really have asked Nick what was going on with me? Did she really care?
Nick: She was totally distraught.
Klyde: How do you know? Her emotions are unreadable.
Nick: I was eavesdropping on her and the other girls
Klyde: ah I see. Yes they can for sure read her emotions.
Iwa: As much as I love all this drama, can you please stop flooding the chat?
Turo: note his sarcasm at loving the drama bitches.
Turo and Iwa are on a different team then the rest of us and are best friends. Some may venture to say they're closet dating, but we don't mention their possible gayness.
I was so concentrated on my conversation, I didn't notice Kenna making her way over to me. All the sudden, she was crawling her way in between my legs. I was leaned up against the wall and she was sideways, cradled.
"Hey," I was shocked, "What are you doing, Kenna?"
"Don't call me that," She hissed in a tone very unfamiliar to me. Anger.
"What do you want me to call you?" I asked.
"Stop being an idiot!" Kenna cried, sitting up to face me completely. We had a staring contest. Her eyes had so much fire in them and it made me want to smile.
But I knew smiling at an angry Kenna might be not a great idea.
"Do you want me to call you KK?" I asked.
"Obviously," She growled.
"I thought you hated that?" I was genuinely confused. I did think she hated when I called her that, but just never really said anything.
"You're an idiot Klyde Tetos," Kenna said again.
"Okay, okay. I'm sorry. I will forever call you KK. Happy, my friend?" I asked. I put in that last part as one last way to see what she would do.
"Not quite," KK muttered and leaned in and kissed me. She actually kissed me. This wasn't me initiating the kiss. It was her! I smiled against her mouth and we stayed there for a few minutes.
We slowly parted, catching our breaths.
"I'm not just your friend, I'm your girlfriend," KK said and then cuddled against me where she was sitting. I was taken aback that she hadn't reached for her video game yet.
"Aren't you gonna keep playing video games?" I asked.
"Not yet," came KK's soft voice, "Just a little longer." Soon KK's breathing turned even slower and I realized she had fallen asleep. Sweet little angel. Sorry. Not angel. KK.
