Grace turned around to see her sister Charlotte dressed in a dirty lacy, white bra and dark blue ripped, satin shorts. Her body was plastered with bruises and faint scars remained from other nights. Her Ash blonde hair was messy and pushed behind her ears. Her ruby red eyes glistened from tears.

Grace turned back to stare out the window, a tear of relief nearly escaped her lower eyelid.

'Sister are you ok?' Whimpered Charlotte while choking back her tears.

'Did father do something?' Asked Grace with a stern and cold voice.

An awkward silence filled the room.

'I-I... It doesn't matter.' Charlotte said trembling still trying to choke back her tears.

'I see mother came to see you last night,' Charlotte said trying to regain confidence in her voice.

Another awkward silence filled the room. Grace had nothing to say to her sister after her unnecessary outburst.

'Grace..?' Charlotte asked showing sadness in her voice.

'If you're going to use my trauma to gain confidence I don't want to see you.' Grace said the coldness in her voice adding to Charlotte's fear.

'Grace... I-I didn't mean to..' Charlotte started to say trying to find the right words to apologise. 'Mother and father have gone out his is the only time we get to spend together... Please don't kick me out..' Charlotte started no longer choking back her tears.

Grace turned to look at her sibling and the feeling of empathy overcame her body. She walked over to her crying sister hand hugged her. As Charlotte cried in her arms Grace was holding back her tears, she couldn't cry right now Charlotte needed her to be there for her. They sat down on the mattress on the floor and Grace said soothing words.

Once Charlotte was asleep Grace laid her sister down and covered her with the ripped purple blanket. She knew she and her sister would get a beating if their parents found out they were communicating, although she knew that her parents wouldn't be home tonight if her parents had gone out.

She laid next to her sister and silently cried before sleep took over her body
