Jokkmokk is a remote town located above the Arctic Circle. Its name means "River's curve." It is mostly cold throughout the year. The dark hours (polar nights) are much longer in the winter while an extended amount of daylight hours (midnight sun) are common in the summer.
Still, it shouldn't hold you back from enjoying the northern lights (aurora borealis), Sami market held on the first weekend of February, the Ájtte Museum, and camping out in the harmonious Arctic forest.
It is also home to the indigenous Sami people. Their livelihood includes fur trapping, coastal fishing, as well as sheep and reindeer herding.
