One of Akira's favorite things about LeBlanc had to be the calm, quiet atmosphere. It was the kind of place you'd go to in hopes of drowning out the rest of the world and letting time flow as it was meant to; slowly, steadily, and perhaps with people you treasure.

Those people, for Akira, were his friends, the phantom thieves. And, after hours (and when the thieves weren't there), Goro Akechi. Sure, the thieves were...eccentric, and good company, but something about the detective's presence calmed Akira. They had many things in common, yet there were many things different about them; in a sense, they were two sides of the same coin. They knew each other well; they understood each other. It was nice, having someone in your life who understood you, especially after everything you've been through together.

So when LeBlanc closes for the night, and the other thieves all go back to their own homes and residences, it leaves Akechi and Akira alone at the café, free to spend their time together however they wanted. And Akira wouldn't have it any other way.

Because then, regardless of how long, Akira had the ace detective to himself, and it was peaceful and it was perfect.

No matter how much his mind may swim, one look at Akechi's face and it all would dissolve in an instant.

He could still hear Ann's playful teasing in the back of his mindー"Just tell him, Akira! A little love confession can't hurt!" Yeah, easy for her to fucking say. She wasn't whipped for a celebrity.

Akira, however, was. But that's not important right now, what's important is this time with Akechi. That's more important than any of his inner turmoils, more important than what Ann thinks, more imー

"Akira? Are you feeling well?"

Ah. It seems he was lost in his thoughts. And in Akechi's presence, no lessーhe made a mental note not to do that again, and laughs nervously to himself in response to Akechi.

"Sorry, got a little lost in thought. Anyway, uh, where were we?"

Akechi thinks for a moment, but then laughs softly.

"It seems I, too, have forgotten. My sincerest apologies, Akira."

"It's alright, we can always change the topic, right?"

"I suppose that's true...I have no reason to be returning to my apartment any time soon. We can talk all we like."

Akechi smiledーhis usual, dazzling, t.v.-ready smile, but there's a note or two of something genuine behind it, and it makes Akira smile right back.

"Okay, allow me to change the topic, then."

Akechi took a sip of his coffee before continuing.

"What...what would you say is your happiest memory?"

Akira blinks. He hadn't expected to be asked that, sure, but that didn't mean he didn't have an answer.
