I stepped out of the car, and took a deep breath. There was a buzz of activity with luggage being hauled towards the dorm, a quarry of lost parents, and kids chatting and laughing.
Dad lifted up my bags, and followed me down a white concrete path to the office. The building was made out of red brick, and a zigzag of paths led to toilets, offices, dorm rooms, the cafeteria, a cafe, class rooms, and a large, red barn. Beyond that was pastures, paddocks and arena's.
In the office, when we finally got to the front of the line, I poked mum so she would turn her phone off.
"I'm Sharon, Eva's mother, and this is my husband, Jo," mum held out her hand to the desk lady. "Eva is attending eighth grade this year, she was the girl who got the scholarship." Mum and dad exchanged a proud look.
"It's nice to meet you,I'm Liz, or the office lady as most students refer to me as. Eva is in dorm room forty nine. If you go outside, turn left into the west dorm rooms, your room should be among them, here is your key." Liz smiled, and handed me the key and then called out next.
Mum and dad walked me to the dorm doors, and then dad handed me my bags.
"Have a brilliant time darling," mum kissed me on the forehead.
"Yes, make us proud," dad winked, "prouder then we already are, that is." Dad slung his arm around mums waist and patted me on the head. I hugged them both goodbye, and then walked into the doors, dragging my two bags behind me. I was imediantly his with the loud chatter chatter of girls reuniting from the summer break. I squirmed trough the crowd, and found my door easily. I found that the door had already been opened, and I walked in imediantly, shutting it behind me. A girl, with hip length, Crimson red hair, in curls, turned at my presence.
"Hey!" She cried, dropping a t-shit she was holding. "I, Jessica, but you can call me Jessy," the girl smiled sweetly.
"Hi Jessy, I'm Eva," I responded, "I'm so glad were roommates."
"Me to," Jessy squealed, and ran over, hugging me. I hugged her back, not knowing what else to to. I was glad that she was sweet, and very comfortable around me.
"How does this horse picking work?" I asked Jessy, sitting down on my bed.
"Well, we tell our teacher how experienced we are, and theyll choose two or three horses, we try them all out, and then the one that the teacher thinks is best, will be yours for the rest of the year." Jessy explains. "Sometimes we just imediantly get given them, instead of trying them out, if we're pretty experienced." I nod slowly, and then smile, understanding it all.
The room was almost split in to, with two single beds pushed up against each wall. Two identical, white cupboards were across from each other, and two bedside tables were next to each bed. The room seemed nice, but could defiantly look better.
Jessy and I chatted for a long time, and then unpacked, and stuck up a few horse posters, set out our bedside tables, and opened the window.
"Let's go have a look at the barn, then we can go to the pizza place for dinner, it's free the first night," Jessy hopped off her bed, and pulled on her shoes. I put on some converse, and then a jumper, and followed Jessy up to the barn.
