"Things looked pretty serious between you and Riven last night." Beatrix teased Elmira as they made their way to the stone circle together. The two girls were already running late but they knew Headmistress Dowling was as well considering Beatrix had just come back from her office. "I wouldn't say serious. He's hot and a good kisser but you know I'm not one to be tied down, besides I don't even know him." Elmira responded, the heels on her black thigh high boots clicking on the rocks filling the empty noise. "You had his tongue down your throat, I'd say you know each other pretty well." The brunette responded making the two girls laugh rather loudly, it shocked their class as they approached, none of their classmates were used to seeing Beatrix happy and it was clear that was only reserved for her best friend.
"Girls, how nice of you to join us." Headmistress Dowling spoke as they took a seat next to each other. Elmira noticed the shorter girl, who she now knew as Terra, staring directly at her and it caused her to roll her eyes. If Terra had something to say to her she could speak up and say so. Staring Terra down she noticed the small girl become uneasy and rest her eyes solely on the headmistress in front of them causing a smile to form on Elmira's face. Beatrix noticed her best friend's actions and smirked before the two girls settled their attention on the teaching.
"Magic lives in the very fabric of nature. And here in the our circle of stone, it's magnified. The vessel tests your ability to channel that magic. Later, you may learn to connect with other elements, but your first year is all about the element you were born with." Elmira shifted slightly thinking about conjuring up her magic in front of strangers, she'd been practicing with Beatrix and she knew she could control it for the smallest duration of time - she just hoped it was long enough to present a false front to everyone.
Taking a deep breath she watched as the students stepped up one by one to present their magic. Terra was up first and Elmira scoffed as she calmly produced roots from the bowl, bringing up memories of the night before and how she could've killed her boy toy. The memory alone fueled Elmira as she tried to focus on the positives instead, she knew she was up after the water fairy had accomplished her task and she needed to channel her powers successfully.
"Ice." Dowling spoke causing Elmira to look up at her, she sighed not wanting to participate but with a small nod from Beatrix she proceeded towards the stone in the center of the circle. Raising her hands above the bowl she closed her eyes and focused on the happiest feeling she could muster, searching her brain seemed meaningless before her mind set on last night. Opening her eyes they were bright blue and stared straight at Terra, the short girl was stunned as Elmira managed to create icicles appear from the bowl all whilst holding an unfaltering smirk on her face.
Elmira moved her fingers slowly as the icicles danced around one another, she ignored the shaking in her body as Dowling nodded and signaled for her that she was successful in completing the task. Turning around and walking back towards her best friend she let the breath go and the shakiness in her hands show as she knew only Beatrix could see her. Sitting down next to her best friend once again Beatrix complimented her strength and began making small talk as a few other fairies displayed their powers before it was her best friend's turn.
