Chapter 10

   Sasha stole meat, of course she did. Eren and I were checking the safeguard of the cannons when we smelled something delicious. I forgot meat existed since the fall of the third wall. Seeing Sasha salivate over a chunk of ham made me remember the past. The times where something as simple as meat wasn't a rarity but common.

   "Hey you gonna share that or what?"

Connie cupped his mouth and yelled at Sasha while she nodded aggressively and hid the protein under her jacket. It was still for a second and almost peaceful. Knowing we were finally scouts about to discover the whole world outside the walls.

   A large lightening bolt stroke the walled with a bang. Steam and mist started pouring and rising out of nothing, knocking everyone off the wall. I barely made it with my equipment but caught a glimpse of Eren about to attack the large abnormal.

   Did it just disappear? So suddenly?

   "Eren are you ok? That was too dangerous that little stunt!" I raced over to him and helped pick him up from where he fell onto the wall. The look he gave me, well, i was terrified. We looked out to the distance to see a horde of titans coming our way.

I'm assigned to a squad and immediately we focus on prepping our equipment. Armin believes this is our end, he doesn't seem to see any positive outcome.

"This isn't the end," Eren shrieks at him. All I can do is watch their banter as I swallow my own dark thoughts. I have to be steady, be confident, be victorious in this battle. For my little sister Clara, who I promised I'd rid the titans for. Eren and I make quick eye contact and nod, mentally agreeing in our mural goals. My heart aches as I haven't seen Reiner since the wall fell again and pray silently for his safety.

We rush to stand in formation, early waiting to rush them damned demons. We are told our positions and my mind runs into a frenzy. I'm searching for my friends who left for other squads in the formation and Reiner. I shake my thoughts off the grimness of losing the advance team. I look over to Eren gritting his teeth, and muster up the courage to put in the same face.

Eren and I regroup after the formation is released, him in heavy thought runs into Jean.

"Watch it!" Jean bites as he stops to face Eren. My face drops when Eren grabs Jean by the shoulder and snarls at him, asking what his problem was. All I could was watch in my state of shock at the events happening as Mikasa walks up to us and joins in my viewing. Eren eventually speaks some sense into Jean as he's off to his next place of duty.

"Eren, find me if you end up alone," Mikasa finally speaks up. She glances at me with a protective look as I nod in understanding. Eren is all she has, regardless of our friendship. I just hope we all make it out of this alive. More than likely we will be marked in someway, but with our lives.

Mikasa is tasked to the elite team and I'm shaken. A newly graduate already showing to be that strong? I grab her forearm and shake as though giving her a bare farewell as she fights Eren on leaving him completely. I'm too stunned for words and still trying to swallow my anxiety as both Eren and I solemnly watch Mikasa repel away.

I see Armin with the other members of our squad and rush towards him, smiling.

"Glad to see you make it." He looks as worried as I do but I fight through it to give him a hug and smile. We repel up to the roof to get a better view on our situation. It's time to follow through with our plan. Sadly though, I think, Eren is pushing his mind too much with the boost ideal of making rank if we survive. The thought the chases my mind, is the word if. It is not a sure thing for us to make it into the higher ranks, let alone make out of this situation alive. The fear rushes through me, and I shiver. Eren, with his crazed look on his face, smiles at me as to tr hand out some motivation in my head. A good try, but is it enough to push me? I'm so sorry Clara.

Another squad walks towards us, and cockily challenges my squad to killing the most titans.

"Don't fake your scores and you just might have bragging rights."

"Bet you can't beat us in killing those titans."

"Half your team is more book smart than killer, so this should be easy."

The taunting is enough and I shrug it off. As our squad is called off to attack, we rush.

There are so many titans. They are bigger than I once remembered and as I snap back to reality, taking in my surroundings, Eren rushes to kill a Titan. I rush after him with the rest of my squad, narrowly missing a titan's grasp. I land on the opposite rooftop of Armin, frozen in shock. Armin and I make eye contact as a Titan reaches for him, and swallows him.

My eyes, widened and fear shaking my body, can only watch in horror as Eren sacrifices his life for Armin. The screams of pain and hurt coming from Armin will forever haunt me. The Titan slumps away, in search for his next meal.
