Part I
Two wobbly tears fell down young Hanna's face as she saw her mother drive away. It was the first day of Kindergarten and so far, Hanna Hart could not see what all the fuss was about. All she wanted to do was go home and play with her new easy-bake oven. But nooo. Grown-ups always had to make things difficult.
As Hanna toddled towards the play ground she noticed the silhouette of a boy leaning against a tree. Although the shade of the tree obscured his face, she could make out the brown colour of his hair and the slight smile he sported. In front of him was a haphazard ant hill, which looked like it had been stomped on. From time to time, the brown haired boy would drop morsels and help the injured ants carry their food. He would turn his head now and again to make sure no one saw, but Hanna did. She instinctively took a liking to him and before she could approach him, the bell rang. He then got lost amidst all her other classmates and all Hanna could think was what a kind hearted boy he was.
She approached the ant hill and took a piece from her sandwich. She broke it into crumbs and layed them neatly on top of the ant hill. Feeling happy she pranced back to her class.
At the end of the day, as she made new friends and started enjoying her school, Hanna forgot all about her little brunet. Little did she know she'd be seeing him again, very soon.
The next day
"AAH!" screeched Hanna as she felt her head go wet. Her hands were on it in a second, and she felt cold, slimy paint. Worse yet, was a wad of gum stuck cruelly in her hair and she burst into tears. Today was a bad day. A very bad day indeed. Not only did Hanna's mom scold her for losing her red clips but now she had to go through this. It seemed that many worries plagued this little girl.
Chubby hands encrircled her own and dragged her to the nearest sink. They helped her wash the paint out of her hair and told her everything would be okay. Someone called the teacher and as she rushed in, Hanna saw the boy's face. Through her blurry eyes all she could make out was his brown hair and she gave him a big hug, feeling like she knew him and could trust him.
"I'm Michael", He said, giving her a warm grin, "Wha abou'chu?
"I'm Hanna", She said, giving a toothy smile of her own.
The teacher looked furious as she helped Hanna clean up, and asked in a very stern tone, "Who did this?!"
"He did!" Pointed Michael, and all eyes turned towards a sultry looking boy, who had a reputation for being mean.
"I hate you!" screamed Hanna, and the boy's big eyes widened. He seemed hurt for a moment and then he started laughing.
"I hate you!" He mocked. Furious at his insolence, Hanna growled, "Not funny."
"Not funny" He said making a face.
The teacher intervened and made him sit in a corner. Hanna felt an immense hatred for that boy and swore to take revenge.
"Don't be sad." said Michael. "Scott's like that with everyone. Are you alright?"
Hanna smiled and said yes, while looking at him with admiration in her eyes.
"Wanna be friends?" He asked shyly, and that's when Hanna fell in love for the very first time. Yes it was puppy love, innocent and fleeting. But it was love nonetheless and Hanna wouldn't forget it for a very long time.
