I woke up on the day before my 18th birthday with a heavy feeling in the pit of my stomach. Tomorrow's the day I find out who my soulmate is, or at least the words that only they will say to me. I got up, getting ready to go to class when I heard my phone start ringing. I picked it up looking at the caller Id.
Jerk is calling...
I rolled my eyes as a smile formed on my lips before I answered the call of none other than Jeon Jungkook.
"What's up idiot?"
"Y/nie why don't you get nicer as your birthday approaches?" I heard him say from the other side of the line. I rolled my eyes again, holding the phone up to my ear with my shoulder as I curled my lashes.
"Whatever, what'd you need?" I asked while continuing to do my makeup. I heard his fake gasp making me start to wonder if its possible to get my eyes stuck at the back of my head if I roll them anymore.
"That offends me, what makes you think I'm calling you to ask for something?"
I chuckled softly as I flung my bag over my shoulder and went to the kitchen to grab an apple.
"You always call to ask for something."
"We'll I guess you won't be wanting that ride to school then." he said. I could practically see that annoying smirk on his face as I heard the words.
"Fine whatever, I'm about to come out, last chance, what do you want?"
"Granola bar please."
"Alright see you soon."
"I hate you."
"Yeah yeah, love you too."
Jungkook didn't say 'I love you'. Not to me at least, as much as he cared about me he couldn't bring himself to say it. Jeon Jungkook, my best friend and the cold bad boy of the school. He carelessly throws those three words around. He told me before, he doesn't want me to think his 'I love you' s are meaningless so he started teasing me, saying he hates me but I knew exactly what those words meant. It may seem strange, to an outsider, but to us it meant everything. We were best friends for a reason after all, the shy girl whom almost nobody knew, keeping the cold bad boy under control. We complimented each others personalities nicely and somehow we managed to stay close friends, even though people tried to pull us apart.
I stepped outside, seeing Jungkook waiting for me in his car, I smiled and waved, watching him wave back to me. I skipped over to the car, opening the door to the passengers seat and got inside then put my seatbelt on. I noticed he wasn't starting the car so I looked over at him, raising a brow.
"My granola bar?" he asked holding his hand out.
"How rude, you're not even going to say hello to me?" I asked, completely ignoring his question.
"Hello, now my bar?"
I gasped, in the same fake way he did while on the phone earlier.
"Oh no, I must have forgotten to get one." I said smacking my forehead lightly. He rolled his eyes, taking my back and taking the granola bar out, putting it in his own bag.
"Yah Jungkook!" I whined as he returned my bag. He raised a brow, as if he didn't just go through my bag.
"That's personal property you idiot." I said, reaching over and flicking his forehead.
He hissed, rubbing the spot I just hit and shrugged.
"What's yours is mine." he said as he started the car. I mocked him under my breath as I held my bag close to me.
"By the way y/n, did you want me to stay with you tonight?"
Ahh right tonight. The most important night of my life. I looked over at Jungkook who had a little smile on his lips. We promised each other that once we've both gotten our marks we'll show each other. Jungkook got his last year, and I've been patiently waiting to see it for months now. Finally the day came but I didn't know if I wanted to see it.
The truth is I've liked Jungkook for a while now, my feelings for him intensifying as each day passes. I didn't know how seeing that mark on his skin would affect me and I didn't want to feel the heartbreak of a fated rejection.
However I remember our promise and so I nodded my head as we pulled up to school.
I got out of the car and headed off to my first lesson after bidding Jungkook goodbye. There I was met with Lisa, the girl that's had eyes for Jungkook ever since we started college. She's also the girl who's been sucking up to me hoping to get close to him. She ran up to me, trapping me in a tight hug, the smell of her perfume invading all my senses. I hugged her back. Honestly I don't really like her, but I'm trying to avoid any argument or fights so I plastered a fake smile on my face.
"Y/n hiii, I heard Jungkook-oppa dropped you off today, do you think you guys could give ma ride too one day?" she asked, looking at me with puppy eyes. I wanted to throw up at how sickeningly sweet she appeared in front of everyone. You reached up, patting her head twice. Jungkook was older than me but not that much older to call him 'oppa'. I never understood why all the girls in my class did since he was only a few months older than them. Same goes with Lisa, she isn't that much older than me but she insists that I call her 'unnie'.
"I'll ask for you unnie okay?" I said before going to my seat. She still clung to me though so I ended up with her for the entirety of the lecture. As we left the class and I turned the corner to go up to the roof I heard her calling behind me.
"Y/n! Don't forget to ask him okay?"
"Yeah I will!" I called back to her.
