Who Am I? (book 2 of the bitten series)

Chapter 1

Who would have thought that the girl I sired would end one of the oldest feuds of all time. I sure didn't think Esmeralda could have pulled it off at the time, but she did and it has been a full year of peace on this campus. I couldn't imagine anything greater than this, well one thing, but that's for later.

Esmeralda seems different than when she first became a vampire. You can say she has good used to it, like she has accepted herself the way she is. And well that is everyone now. I'm just glad to be back for a second year.

"What are your classes this year " Esmeralda hands me the paper. "Jobs, vampire economics, languages, powers and art still" I say reading them off. I look up at her which she is smiling as usual. I love that I can always tell what she is thinking by the look on her face rather than really reading her mind. " I have the exact same" she squeals with excitement which I can help to laugh to myself. I'm so glad she has loosen up a bit and acting like a normal teen girl again. "I'm going to get ready" she scurried off to the bathroom. This was definitely going to be an interesting year.

I wore my usual black trench coat with a gray button up, black jeans and my black arm like boots. "Ready" she called from the bathroom. "Yup" I waited for her to appear. The door opened and there she was in a black dress, red tights, her black boots and a black choker necklace I gave her for her birthday. She slid on a short red blazer to match her tights. "So what do you think" she asks. I didn't even notice her red lipstick until she spoke. "Nice" it was all I could say to not make her that I found her attractive. I am an idiot who is too afraid to tell her the truth. "You think" she smiled looking down at her outfit. "I know" I tell her. "Great" she grabs her bag ready for the new year. I grab mine before she drags me out the door.

We catch up to Arco and his brother Carver who are heading to school also. "Hey, it's nice to see you guys" I high five Carver. Esmeralda side hugs Arco close as he hugs back. "So how was your break" she asks after she lets the poor boy go. "It was fun catching up with our sisters" Arco says but I can tell that he hated it. "Yes, so much fun especially with Reese and the new pup" Carver said with the same dislike. "Who's Reese" Esmeralda asks. "Reese is the oldest of us five and she recently had a baby girl, who cries all the time" Carver whined. I notice both of them looked tired with dark circles under their eyes. "No sleep" I ask to confirm my observations. "Yes, we finally got a good night last night" Carver looked down as if a sad puppy. "What about your other sisters" Esmeralda asks. "Sydney who is a zoologist was all about the baby and Crystal just hug around Arco all the time" Carver groaned. "Crystal is only a few years older than me, but still younger than Carver" Arco explained. "So why doesn't she go to this school" I ask figuring out the age order now. I am guessing it goes Reese, Sydney, Carver, Crystal and then Arco. "She is training to be the next pack shamen so she doesn't have to go to normal school" Arco told me. "I thought it had to be passed down" I ask since I know a bit about werewolf order. "Well, our grandfather is. So Crystal wants to continue the legacy" Arco smiles fondly. "Yeah, but she only asked about how school and the outside world was like while we were there" Carver added. "So, at least she talked to me, can say much for any of you who ever cared" Arco crossed his arms and huffed. "But you aren't family pup anymore, so it's okay" Carver ruffled Arcos hair. Arco swatted his hands away making his older brother laugh. "Have you guys seen Ninny" Esmeralda asks. "Nope, or Missy" Arco whined. Everyone knew Arco had a thing for the little forest faery Missy. She has short pink hair and was now 14 this year while Arco is now 15. "Why don't you ask her out" Esmeralda asks. "She won't say yes" he looked down at his shoes. Everyone also knows that Missy has a thing for Arco. "Why doesn't Simon ask you out" Carver retorted with a smug smirk. I hate when people bring this up, since I have cared for Esmeralda since I bit her, but she doesn't need a boyfriend from me, she needs a mentor and a friend, nothing more. "Because we are just friends" Esmeralda told him. "What about you and Ninny" I ask him which i know will get on his nerves. "We are total opposites, she's a vampire and I'm a werewolf" he said annoyed. "But you guys are totally the same in personality" Esmeralda points out. "Shut up" he growls. "So how was your break" Arco asked. Esmeralda and I looked at each other then back at Arco ", nothing."

Our summer break was very event full. When we went back to the human world which felt strange and like a new place rather than the home. Esmeralda really wanted to see her folks, but before we knew it we were being chased by police. "Didn't you leave a letter that you were running away" I ask her as we hide at our alley. "I may have forgotten that" she shrugs. "That isn't good, now people think I kidnapped you" I lay back on the brick wall looking up at the night sky. "Sorry, I guess I can tell them I ran away" she kicks a rock onto the opposite wall. "You should send a postcard so they think you are somewhere else and safe" I look down at her. "Fine" she grumbles. So we went to Las Vegas so we could get a postcard and send it to her parents. We basically spend the rest our time there playing arcade games and letting her try her first drink which she swore she would never do again. Then we left to find the ghost train, but a week before that well lets just say we ran into a few hunters and barely got away if it weren't for me.

"It sounds like something" Carver chimed in. "Nah, just the boring and doing nothing" Esmeralda tries to play it off but even I wouldn't believe her. "We went to Las Vegas" I say telling at least part of the truth. "So cool, so what is the human world really like, is it dark and scary as they say" Arco asks in wonder like a little child. "We were born there, it's normal to us" Esmeralda says. "Oh, I forgot you guys are bitten" that's when Carver smacked him in the back of the head. "Don't be rude runt" Carver shook his head in shame. "Whatever" Arco crossed his arms. "So what's your guy's first" I ask them. "I have jobs" Carver says. "Humans since I didn't have it last year" Arco grumbled. "It's easy don't worry" Esmeralda smiled at him and he cracked a smile before his older brother gave him a noogie. That's when the bell rang and we headed to our classes.

"What do you think jobs is about" Esmeralda asks me. "What jobs are there for monsters I guess" I shrug with no clue. "Yeah, it's weather you choose to be apart monster or human society" Carver said to us. "Pup" a familiar voice said in front turning our attention to the owner. "Ninny" Esmeralda got up and hugged her. "Missed me much" she asks when Esmeralda lets go and takes her seat. "Nope, I was glad to have a mosquito like you gone" Carver said happily. "You should be lucky I didn't bring a razor" she snapped back at him. He growled at her as she took her seat next to him and behind me and Esmeralda. "You guys are the cutest couple" I say sarcastically to only be rewarded with glares, but I got to hear Esmeralda's laugh. "Order class order" the teacher says turning our attention to the big tree man in front of us.

"Hello class I am Mr. Bark your Jobs teacher" he spoke. It was kind of weird seeing a tree talk, but then I thought him more as a person and it seemed quite normal. "What you are going to learn is how to become one with society" he explained. He kind of reminded me of an old wise man, but as a tree. "First you must choose which society since there are many, but the main two are human and magical" he continues. He explains all the branches, I know it's a bad pun, of the magical society which is every kind of monster. I know Esmeralda and I don't truly fit in any society of magical kind, being bitten is like being a leopard in the medieval ages, since no one cares about you. At least we have each other, and the human world.

When class is over Carver goes to his next class since only vampires had Vampire economics which left us with Ninny. "So how was your break" Esmeralda asks her. "It was fine. My father was teaching me all the ways of a vampire so when I become the next leader I can rule properly, but with a few changes in the werewolf enemy department" she smiles happily enjoying the life that she was born into. "I heard we got a new teacher" she also says. "Cool, can't wait to meet them" Esmeralda said. When we enter I feel this strange feeling of deja vu, but I don't know where it is coming from. Then I see him, the man I haven't seen in three years. The man who put this fate upon me, my sire.
