Chapter 35 - reunion

The first battle went by very quickly. The men didn't seem to be as skilled as they appeared, and were swiftly wiped out by Jungkook's sword and punches, Hoseok's tornado's, Jin's waves and my bolts of fire. Before we could get tired, they all lied knock-out in the muddy ground.

"Told you, piece of cake." Jungkook said, though he didn't sound too confident. The rest stayed silent, knowing that again, this was just for show. There was something much bigger coming.

"Well, well, well. That was about time. I was expecting you much sooner." An all too familiar low voice spoke with a slightly bored undertone. The boys narrowed their eyes at the owner of the voice as he slowly walked towards us from the entrance of the mansion. Behind him followed more men, that started to surround us in a circle.

I knew this was going to happen. Yet, my breath was still taken away as I looked Xavier in the eyes, that still had that emptiness in them. Other than his eyes, he had changed quite a lot since the last time I had seen him. He stood much taller, his hair was darker and whereas his face was normally clean shaven, he now had a slight stubble.

"Hey sis." He smirked as we all still stood in silence.

"I'm going to fucking kill you." Jungkook hissed between his teeth as he hunched over as if to attack Xavier at any second.

Xavier laughed loudly at him before diverting his eyes to me again. "Who's this idiot, Gabi? Is this your boyfriend?" He emphasised the word 'boyfriend' while scrunching up his face, as if it was a disease.

I wondered how he was going to defend himself if he continued to be so provoking. I couldn't see any weapons on him and the way Jungkook's nostrils flared, I wasn't sure he could contain himself from attacking Xavier much longer.

"I shouldn't be surprised, though. Of course you would get one as soon as you'd left from home, you whore." Xavier spat, making Jungkook lunge forward. "You fucking asshole." He screamed whilst darting forwards.

What happened next, made me scream the loudest I had ever done.

As Jungkook prepared to unleash his sword, Xavier brought up his right hand to send a fire bolt straight at Jungkook, taking him down.

"Jungkook!" I screamed whilst running towards him. I quickly checked for his pulse, which was going, but weak. With the water I could get out of the moist soil, I started to heal his wound.

"Pathetic." Xavier huffed as he walked closer towards us.

"H-how?" I sobbed, referring to his ability to fire bend.

"God, you're stupid." Xavier chuckled. "Amazing how we're twins, but you're so much less gifted than I am."

"You've engineered the genes to become benders." Jin spoke, in disbelief. "I thought you Libertas hated bender? You're all about offering power to those that can't bend."

Xavier shrugged. "We are. But this is so much more fun, isn't it? First, we take all bending abilities from those that were born with it. Those who stand in our way will be eliminated." He paused dramatically to let his story sink in. "Then, we convert ourselves to benders and simply do what the previous benders did before."

"What about my mom?" Hoseok asked. "Is she part of the plan as well?"

"Kind of." Xavier shrugged. "She was easy to convince and help us from within the government. All for her little boy, she said." He rolled his eyes. "We'll get rid of her once we're done with you."

I sighed in defeat as Hoseok scowled at Xavier. This wasn't looking good. "What about me?" I asked with a shaky voice.

"Yes, well you're a bit of a problem." Xavier sighed. "We don't really know how to take your bending skills away, so we don't have much choice other than to eliminate you."

"So, you're just going to kill me now? Your own blood?" I huffed in disbelief. "I can't belief that you want this so much, and that your hatred for me is so big, that you can kill me?"

"See, that's again where there's a difference between you and I." Xavier chuckled. "I know that you could never kill me, but I, on the other hand, don't have a problem taking you out at all."

He took a deep breath before bending his knees to take a stance. "Bring it on, sis."

I took a deep breath before sending some rocks his way, which he easily avoided. At the same time, the men around us starting to attack Jin, Hoseok and Jungkook, who had regained consciousness again after my healing.

It wasn't looking too great for us. Xavier proved to be strong and skilled at his fire bending, whilst the men had apparently acquired bending skills as well. Jin and Jungkook were still weak from their injuries, and Hoseok was outnumbered by the many men.

I screamed as I was hit by a rock from one of the men, not being able to guard myself whilst attacking Xavier, who was now sending blue fire that I blocked with air.

It dawned on me that we weren't going to make it.

Then, there seemed to be some commotion. The men started screaming about something, whilst Xavier's eyes widened briefly at something behind me before retracting back to the mansion.

Before bolting after him I looked behind me to see what it was about, and almost cried at the sight I saw.

Together with Jungkook, Jin and Hoseok, stood Krystal, Yuta and Baekhyun, who helped them fight the men.

"Wha-" I screamed, but was interrupted by one of Yuta's waves that missed me by a hair.

"Sorry, Gabi." He apologised as he continued to knock-out his air-bending opponent. "I didn't see you there." He winked as Krystal screamed "Gabi, what are you waiting for? He went inside, take him out!"

I quickly did as she said, but couldn't miss Hoseok's appraisal of Krystal's technique as I ran past him. 

I couldn't help but smile.
