W/N This is an extremely small chapter but a vital one!

(Narrator's POV)

Everything seemed to be looking up for the two, in Jay's eyes. But just as he got comfortable, Nathan coughed up a light red substance. Not only was he truly, undeniably dying, his asthma was only speeding up the process.

          "Nathan!" Jay screams.

"Hush baby, it's okay, I promise." Nathan coughs feebly.

"No, no it's not!" Jay sobs.

A loud cracking sound fills the air before a loud boom erupts. It was a gun. Nathan felt the vicious bullet tear through his skin, leaving a hole in his abdomen. He holds Jay as tight as he can, Jay's sobbing hysterically by now.

"Jay, baby, shh. If they hear you, they'll hurt you, too." Nathan cooed even though the words weren't exactly true. Marrissa was enraged and out for blood. Multiple bright lights flash in the one, tiny window on the door that leads upstairs. Jay hears the sirens and his heart soars at the thought. Nathan will be okay! Nothing else mattered to Jay. Nathan's grip on Jay loosened the same as his grip on life. He knew his end was nearing but he was willing to fight. If he didn't fight, Jay would be broken. The type of broken that can never be fixed.

Suddenly, a huge explosion went off a couple meters from Jay and Nathan. How could four people be so violent and vicious without a care in the world Nathan thought. He felt boks fly around, and a wall tumbling down. The wall hit his head mercilessly. Instantly, Nathan left consciousness because of the impact. Everything was black. And all Nathan could think of was that nothing would ever be okay after this. And then Nathan thought of nothing, for once.
