Jack was running across the halls of the lab very hastily. His boss had prepared him for a moment like this as he put on his hazmat suit. Dr. Hatcher was waiting for him in the testing chamber.
"Jack, are you sure you want to do this" said Dr. Hatcher with a concerned look as he activated the Rift Gate. Jack was his most loyal assistant and friend.
"I would have chosen someone else to do this. However, only you and I know how the Rift Gate works. Surely a way to travel to another world would be impossible without our hard work today." Jack said with a slight chuckle.
Dr. Hatcher knew Jack was afraid. Not for himself but for the daughter he cares for.
"If something happens to me............."
Jack paused and grabbed a locket with a picture of him and his daughter spending time at Mt. Fuji and closed it in Dr. Hatcher's fist. "Don't tell Saki. She doesn't deserve to feel the loss. I've already lost Dr. Sakura. I can't let her suffer her father's loss as well."
"Surely the Rift Gate will not fail. I made it with quartz and the most well-preserved fossils of the past." said Dr. Hatcher as he pulled the lever. The Rift Gate opened with a great roar of power. The other side was unknown as it was filled with a great swirl of purple and white.
"To think of a world where all prehistory never ended. Your son does love dinosaurs Dr. Hatcher. Jack said standing before the Gate.
"May you serve us all. No matter what world or place you are in." Dr. Hatcher said. Jack leapt into the Gate and a faint silence apart from the swirl of the Gate filled the lab.
"Don't worry. He will be fine as long as the cable is not torn." Dr. Hatcher reassured the other scientists in the Lab. "Dr. Hideyoshi, how's it going over there."
"His vitals are somewhat okay. He doesn't seem to be panicking and sounds like he is treading through grass. We cannot communicate through voice contact"
Suddenly Jack sent a message saying these words:
"Dr. Hatcher, I think this world isnt just filled with prehistoric creatures. I just passed a Mayan Pyramid and what looks like what might be the Ship of Odysseus.
"Odysseus' ship?! I thought it was swallowed by Charibdys in the myth." said Dr. Hatcher and quickly replied. "Jack try to identify the wildlife there."
There was an odd silence as Jack's vitals reached a blank line with only faint beats of his heart. Something wasn't right and Jack definitely had to hide from it.
"Doctor. The wildlife is as you expected it. However, I am hiding from these large dinosaurs that you may call Utahraptors."
"Jack get out of there. They are known to be pack hunters and might be pretending to not notice you" replied Dr. Hatcher with a panicky face.
Suddenly the slow pulling cable was pulling very very fast and hard. Jack's vitals were racing and random gibberish was being sent through the messages.
"rfqewuiofcioehnopkjqfjw33e. rfuhnq2-dfiu\]"
"wedwchbjnkehuj"
Dr. Hatcher quickly ran to the cable and started pulling back. Who knows what was happening to Jack on the other side? If he was sending gibberish code he must have panicked and was spotted by the raptors.
Dr. Hatcher, Hideyoshi and 5 other assistants were later playing a human tug of war with unknown forces on the other side of the Rift Gate.
At last Jack was pulled into the Lab as he flew through the Gate and landed on Dr. Hatcher.
"Jack! You made us worry there!" cried Dr. Hatcher as he embraced his friend
Their celebration stopped as another shape flew through the Gate and the power of a non-human size killed the power in Laboratory. The scientists were sitting there in cold darkness. What jumped through the Gate was certainly not finished with Jack just yet as it sliced open a defenseless lab assistant in the dark.
"Jack, Did you pack a firearm along the way?" whispered Dr. Hatcher.
Jack quietly and slowly drew his gun and handed it to his friend.
Dr. Hatcher aimed at the shadow of the Utahraptor as it was feeding on the assistant.
"Jack little to the left."
Jack leaned mildly and Dr. Hatcher prepared to fire his gun.
"Simon. Please don't get mad at me."
The silence of the night was broken with the sound of gunshots and Dinosaur screams.
