beomgyu took a deep breath as he pulled into an empty space in front of the park. the lot was quite bare, all aside from the grey chevy parked beside him. he quickly checked the time on his phone before hearing a light knock on the window near the passenger side. he looked up calmly to meet eyes with his best friend.

"can you unlock the door? it's about to rain!" he heard yeonjun's muffled voice through the window. beomgyu snickered, pushing the lock button to make yeonjun think he had unlocked it. yeonjun pulled back on the handle and sighed when he realized beomgyu had pranked him once again. beomgyu smiled and happily unlocked the door, for real this time.

yeonjun jumped into the passenger seat with a huge smile on his face, excited to see his best friend. beomgyu forced a smile and set his phone in the cup holder.

"so," beomgyu starts, "what was so important that you called to meet me here?"

beomgyu can see that yeonjun had slightly tensed up after hearing his question. the yellow haired boy smiled. he reached down to play with his bracelet before looking back up into beomgyus eyes.

"i told you, i want to tell you who my crush is."

beomgyu feels his heart race and ache at the same time. he knew that this conversation would not end well. no matter what happened, someone would be going home today heartbroken.

beomgyu tried his best to suppress the nervous jitters he felt throughout his body as he proceeded to ask, "well, who is it?"

yeonjun anxiously laughed at his question and looked away. he was silent for a few moments, pondering if now was really the best time to announce his crush to his best friend. he thought about chickening out and running back to his car, but it suddenly began to rain. as the seconds passed by, the rain came down harder and harder. yeonjun took this as a sign that he shouldn't leave and run away from his feelings. on the other hand, beomgyu took this as a sign that the day would in fact end in shambles like he predicted.

"beomgyu, it's..." the older paused and took a deep breath. "it's soobin...i like soobin."

"oh," beomgyu managed to speak although his heart was cracking into pieces like a broken glass. "you do like a boy then."

yeonjun nodded softly. he had been looking down at his fidgeting hands wondering if he should have kept his secret to himself. he focused on nothing but the sound of rain until the younger boy spoke up.

"i'm proud of you yeonjun, thank you for telling me." he felt his lips quiver but maintained a shakey smile. yeonjun began to softly laugh in relief.

"i don't know why i was so worried," he spoke, "i knew you would accept me. you're my best friend."

right. friend.

the two boys talked for a few more minutes and the rain began to slow until it was a light sprinkle. yeonjun glanced out the window and pointed, "look, gyu! a rainbow at the end of the storm!"

beomgyu huffed out a laugh as yeonjun opened the car door.

"i'll see you at school tomorrow, right?" yeonjun asked.

"you sure will, junnie."

and just like that, beomgyu found himself sitting motionless in his vehicle as his best friend got into his car and drove out of the parking lot...leaving him to sit alone leaning against his steering wheel as he looked up at the forming rainbow in the sky.

well, he was almost alone.

he remained unstartled as the shuffling sounds grew closer from the back of his car. out of the corner of his eye, he saw a leg kick over the seat and a familiar body climb beside him where yeonjun once sat.
