Hello everyone, if you read the introduction, you know that I was inspired to make this book after being asked to review someone's fanmade archetype.
The idea was absolutely amazing and something I've always wanted to see happen in Yu-Gi-Oh, but I noticed that there were some serious flaws in the archetype.
This part of the book doesn't talk about those flaws, but it's more or less directed at those who are just getting started with making fanmade Yu-Gi-Oh cards.
The first step to making your own cards or your own character, is to brainstorm ahead of time. Don't rush and try to come up with something on the fly like I did as a young kid. Plan it out, take it slow, it doesn't have to be 100% perfect, but if you brainstorm, you'll have a better chance of making an amazing card.
What to Brainstorm About (Cards Only)
Card Type (Monster, Spell or Trap)
Card Era (Is it for Rush Duels? Normal Duels? Turbo Duels?)
Card's Effect (Make sure you know what the card is supposed to do before you make it! Normal monsters or any monsters without effects can just skip this step.)
Card's Name (What will you call the card?)
Here's an example I made for you.
This card I made has two major effects.
1. Special summon any "Photon" or "Galaxy" monster from the Graveyard once summoned to the field.
2. Prevents your "Galaxy" monsters from being targeted by card effects if used as tribute to summon one.
The first effect of it's name becoming "Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon," helps it serve as a replacement for the real deal, making certain effects in your deck easier to use.
What To Brainstorm About (Ocs Only)
What Archetype do they prominently use (If they don't focus on one archetype, ignore this)
If you can't think of an archetype, what archetype would fit them based on who they are?
Who exactly is your OC (Make sure you do this first and foremost)
What is your OC like (Personality)
What makes them unique from any other duelist (Interesting traits)
What series do they fit in most? (If the OC isn't for the anime itself, you can ignore this)
Another important thing to help you is to try referencing off of already created cards. To reference means to take inspiration or guidance from something. It'll help your cards make more sense to the average player, and make your OC feel more genuine in the Yu-Gi-Oh Universe.
Remember.
Brainstorm and Reference, they'll help you make amazing creations.

RandomI've recently been tagged on someone's fanmade archetype. I really liked the idea of it, but I noticed that it'd be rather difficult to make sense of. So, in hopes of helping everyone who wants to make a fanmade card or create an OC, I want to give...
