Not Enough

Midoriya's lips pulled down in a frown, his emerald eyes narrowed as he watched the live surveillance footage on the agency's flat screen. In large bold letters, Midoriya read 'Villain Attack, Casualties unknown; Red Riot and Dynamite on site.'

His scarred hand tightened around his 'Uravity' mug; it had taken every ounce of restraint within him not to go out there despite the many protests from the other members of his agency. Izuku felt a strong hand now resting on his broad shoulder.

"They're going to be fine out there Midoriya, Kirishima and Bakugou work great together. You have to trust them." Bowing his head for a moment, Izuku allowed himself to relax against that friendly touch and reassuring words before turning to meet the half and half male watching him warily.

"I know, I'm just worried. This is a huge job and more of us should be out there, they may be heroes, but they aren't indestructible."

Todoroki's own comforting smile dipped at that; realization must have settled from Midoriya's own doubts. Shouto's attention now settling on the screen that Midoriya had just been watching. They both had someone important out there.

"Deku, Shouto, you two are going to be needed out there after all."

Time is a funny thing when you are counting down every minute before you are finally placed before the one thing that frightens you the most. Izuku hadn't wasted any time getting out to the sight of the attack. Iida, Ingenium had been called out to join Izuku and Shouto upon arriving, the trio being ordered to clear out any remaining victims since the villains' whereabouts were unconfirmed, but the attack had suddenly just stopped.

The villain Red Riot and Dynamight had gone up against was confirmed to be a Shinjuku citizen whose real alias was Tomoya Shizuru. Shizuru had a type of emitter quirk revolving around gases that could aid fire, this being the reason for Eijirou and Katsuki being chosen for the job in the first place. An hour had approximately passed since they had heard the last explosion in the heart of the ruined sector the villain had attacked.

Izuku couldn't stop scanning the area for the familiar sharp spikes of dyed crimson hair. From the tight set of Todoroki's jaw, Midoriya knew he wasn't alone.

The heroes were going onto two hours on sight, neither he nor the other pros had found any evidence of Katsuki or Kirishima. Izuku had cleared out the remaining victims and Shouto had found Shizuru unconscious but alive beneath a scalpel from one of the ruined buildings. There had been no sign of their heroes at the sight and his pulse seemed to pick up, he balled his fist to prevent others from seeing the number one hero's shaking hands.

He was afraid.

"Deku! Is there any news you can give us?"

It hadn't taken long for the press to pour in, finding their way on the sight despite the law enforcement attempting to keep them off the scene. They had begun waving microphones in front of the working heroes' faces along with blinking camera lights. He offered an easy smile to the cameras he could not let them see his fear, "Nothing that I can offer to the public as of right now. But the outcome is much better than we expected. The villain has been captured."

"And what of Red Riot and Dynamight? Are they okay?

Izuku had begun to form an answer for the concerning questions surrounding the other heroes' whereabouts when the crowd began shouting, at first it had been his name followed by a roar of multiple names and mixtures of phrases. "LOOK! IT'S DYNAMIGHT AND RED RIOT! ARE THEY HURT?! What are they carrying!?' Midoriya had nearly given himself whiplash by how quickly he turned in the direction of where everyone had been pointing and yelling.

From where he stood Izuku could make out two large bodies emerging through a cloud of smoke and debris, crimson locks were the first thing to snag his attention. Izuku then started to assess the injuries he could make out, an arm bent at a weird angle, definitely broken. Cuts here and there that had clogged, so he wasn't bleeding out. Good, that was good. There didn't seem to be any wounds to any vital organs but there were bruises dark enough to be seen on Eijirou's russet skin that told Izuku that he had suffered many bluntly forced facial injuries.

Bakugou on the other hand wore a few bruises and multiple cuts, though compared to Kirishima he was perfectly fine. From where Izuku stood he could see Bakugou wasn't empty-handed, he walked with something in his arms. No, not something; someone. Izuku sucked in a breath and turned to yell out to the paramedics. "Someone! Hurry! They have someone and they're injured!"

Midoriya ran for the two males, as he came upon them his steps halted. Realization hitting as he waited for the faintest rise and fall of the victim's chest, but it never came. Izuku could now see the person Katsuki held was a child, his gaze rose to meet not one, but two sets of scarlet eyes blurred with the threat of tears.

"I tried everything," Kirishima spoke first, shaking his head before a sob shuddered through the large males' body. "She was fine," Bakugou added hoarsely, his tone slightly confused as if he couldn't believe this outcome. "We were almost out but that bastard," the blond cut off inhaling a shaken breath and he looked directly at Izuku when he spoke again. "She saved Kirishima's life."

In the midst of Bakugou's explanation, Eijirou had fallen to his knees, bowing his head to the asphalt beneath him a defeated yell ripping out of him. Bakugou gritted his teeth, looking away from his friend not allowing himself to break as he handed the lifeless body to the paramedics. His gloved hand reaching out to brush back a strand of onyx hair from the young girls' grubby face.

"Katsu!"

Midoriya caught sight of Todoroki sprinting across the scene towards Katsuki, the half and half hero collided with the explosive hero, the two holding onto one another so tight in the midst of the chaos. Shouto had gripped the back of the blonds' head holding his partner tight as he murmured soft reassurances in Bakugou's ear.

"Don't you ever scare me like that again, do you understand me?" Shouto pulled back slightly to find his lover's gaze with his own, his calloused hands slipping from the blond spikes to either side of his face before crushing his lips in a desperate kiss to Bakugou's own.

Izuku watched the scene unfold for a matter of seconds before turning to consul his unbreakable hero who was now doing the opposite of his name. Midoriya's gloved hands rested on either side of his hero's face, raising it to meet his. His own emerald gaze had blurred, and he blinked away the tears that had come forth.

"Baby... look at me, Eijirou you did everything you could. Do you hear me?"

Kirishima had no response to Izuku's words only silent tears that streamed endlessly down his tanned cheeks. Midoriya felt his chest tighten and a lump form in his throat at his lovers' expression. Pressing his forehead against Kirishima's, Izuku held the unbreakable hero as he finally broke.

"I didn't do enough," were the only words that left Kirishima's lips.
