You lean off the edge of your sailboat and yell excitedly at your friend who is steering it. "Put out the other sail! Let's go faster!" You hear your friend laugh at you as she gives you a thumbs up. You watch the water flow by quickly two inches from your face and feel the salt water mist on your face. There is nothing you love more than the ocean and the thrill of sailing, and it has been that way for as long as you can remember. The feeling of being free was something that nothing could compare to and you only found it when you were on the water. You feel the boat go faster and get some air as it crashes over a larger wave. You grip the side rail tighter, laughing, as you almost fall in. Suddenly though, you feel the boat hit a wave from the side and lurch you off the boat into the water. The icy cold paralyzes you as it engulfs you and you find yourself unable to move. Instead, you watch the light of the day darken as you strangely sink deeper into the waters, as if something is pulling you downwards into the depths....
When you open your eyes, you are lying on a wooden floor with a coat draped over you. You look from your place lying on the ground, around at your scenery. You appear to be in some kind of kitchen, judging by the barrels of apples and potatoes and onion peels on the floor. You look to the far corner to where there is a wooden ladder. You hear footsteps coming down the ladder and, panicked, abandon your place on the floor (and the coat) and hide behind a group of barrels. You hear the footsteps approach and watch through a crack as the person bends down to pick up the coat on thee ground.
"Hello? Are you in here? I'm guessing you woke up." He pauses between every remark waiting for you to reply. You close your eyes and put your head on your knees, feeling the rocking of the ground, signalling to you that you were on some kind of a ship. You feel a gentle hand suddenly on your knee and flinch. "Don't be afraid of me." The person says in a soothing voice. You raise your head to look into his sky blue eyes. "I'm the one that pulled you out of the water, I'm not going to hurt you."
"Thank you..." You say, admiring the boy's rugged face. Although he looks your age, faded scars dash over his face in odd spaces. "Who are you? What are you?"
"I think I should be the one asking you that." The boy chuckles, pulling his hand off your knee. "I'm Jaime, just your average cabin boy or pirate or whatever you want to call it. But really, what were you doing in the ocean? These are dangerous waters you know."
You feel your face turn red, not wanting to be honest. "I... fell in."
Jaime's face brakes into a smile and he starts to laugh, slightly angering you. "Well, I guess I'm kind of glad to hear that. If you had chosen to go for a swim in Hook's waters, THEN I would be concerned." At that statement you began to laugh with him, surprised that you already felt so comfortable with him. He continues to ask you simple questions and soon you feel as if you had known this boy for years. A voice then interrupts your conversations though.
"JAIME! WHERE ARE YA, CABIN BOY! WE'RE ABOUT TO OVERTAKE! GET UP HERE!" A hoarse, frightening voice shouted. Jaime groaned, rolling his head back on his neck.
"Yeah! Be right there!" Jaime yelled back. "Okay, I'll probably be back. Just stay down here until I get back and don't let anyone find you, okay?" He then gets up, pulls a dagger out of his belt and places the blade in his mouth. He runs over to the far corner and climbs the ladder quickly, leaving you alone in the kitchen, shaking and listening to the sounds of shouts and cannons. You reach over and grab Jaime's jacket, draping it around your shoulders, and wait for him to return.
You are waken by someone tapping your shoulder. Your eyelids slowly open to see Jaime's face looking at you. He has a bandage on one of his cheeks and you see red soaked through. "Sorry I took a little longer than I thought." He whispers, "I needed to get this puppy stitched up." He laughs at your face that you know must look slightly horrified.
"Are you okay? Jaime, what happened?" You ask worriedly, reaching to touch the bandage lightly.
"I'm fine," He laughs, grabbing your hand and standing you up, pulling you to your feet. "They like to go for the face. Now come on, we're about to pass close to my favorite island in Neverland. Let me show you!
You follow Jaime as he takes you by the hand, up to the top deck and gasp. Out on the horizon is a gorgeous island covered in trees. Jaime continues to lead you, however, up to the crows nest. The view is beautiful. The sun has long gone down, leaving the scenery dark, but still just as calm and beautiful. His coat still hung around your shoulders, keeping you warm amidst the cold wind.
"You're so cute when you're excited." Jaime, lifts your chin to look at him and presses his lips sweetly on yours. His face smiling sadly as he pulls away. "I'm just sorry I'm a pirate, you deserve better than a life at sea."
"Jaime, this is everything I could as for." You reply, sliding your arms around his ribcage and resting your head on his chest, looking out onto the sea.
