Darkness is blind to all that is good.
When it has hold, it promises things you know you can't, but think you should.
Darkness comes in many forms.
It comes as a creeping thought of "What if?", or in a crashing wave of "Why this?"
Darkness holds onto the soul, dimming out all the light.
You fight, and you fight, till your knuckles are bruised, and your head is light.
Darkness can be as quiet as a whisper, or as loud as thunder.
Darkness is many things, but if that's so, what does peace of mind mean?
Peace of mind is hearing voices that brighten the light.
Peace of mind is seeing smiles that clear the fog.
Peace of mind is for once thinking you're first, and not second, or chained like a dog.
Peace of mind is knowing you mean something to the world around you, and not hating on the darkness that confines you.
Just like the changing weather, the sun is gone.
Here it comes again, back into the darkness and beyond.
"Why did they say that? Did I do something wrong?""What is this frown doing here? I want to smile, and have no fear."
Darkness is remembering the past, and wondering how long it'll last.
Darkness is - Oh look they smiled.
They're talking, oh good.
They're laughing, that's great.
Do they love me? Do they care?
They're not talking bad...."You only hear what you want to hear".
No stop it, you lie.
They wouldn't hurt me.
"They don't care if you die."
Stop! You're wrong!
They love me! They care!
"Give in to the darkness, you've no family here."
Peace of mind is knowing you're free, seeing their smiles, their joy and their glee.
Peace of mind is knowing the darkness is gone, knowing you've beat it, you've won.
Peace of mind, can I have some?

PoetryA series of poem collections I've written over the years. Writing has always been a form of coping for me, so some of these have trigger warnings.
