When my life is through

And the angels ask me to recall

The thrill of it all

Then I will tell them I remember, tell them I remember

Tell them I remember you

After their escape from Shield's van, Agent Hill steered the group towards a secluded facility nestled in the heart of a forest, near a tranquil river.

"GSW. She's lost at least a pint," Hill urgently announced as they crossed the facility's threshold.

"Maybe two," Sam added.

A man in a suit came running to them, "Let me take her."

"She'll want to see him first," Maria asserted to the man.

Shock painted the faces of the quartet. What did Hill mean by "him"? Was if Fury? Could he be alive. In a room filled with machines and a hospital bed, Nick Fury lay with a smirk.

"About damn time," Fury greeted, his lightness a total contrast to the severity of the situation. The doctor promptly attended to Natasha's gunshot wound. Torn between seeking answers and staying by Fury's side, they fought with a tumultuous mix of emotions.

Fury, with a hint of tiredness, shared the gruesome details of his injuries – lacerated spinal column, cracked sternum, shattered collarbone, perforated liver, and a pounding headache. The doctor chimed in, reminding everyone not to overlook Fury's collapsed lung. "Let's not forget that. Otherwise, I'm good."

Natasha, her eyes searching Fury's injured form, struggled to grasp the reality. "They cut you open. Your heart stopped."

With a calm demeanour, Fury explained, "Tetrodotoxin B slows the pulse to one beat a minute. Banner developed it for stress. Didn't work so great for him, but we found a use for it."

"Need to get me some of that," Alice interjected, her attempt at humour met with a stern gaze from Steve.

The captain, visibly distressed, questioned Fury, "Why all the secrecy? Why not just tell us?"

Maria clarified, "Any attempt on the Director's life had to look successful."

Fury added, "Can't kill you if you're already dead. Besides, I wasn't sure who to trust." His gaze, pointed at Alice, evoked a mixt of suspicion and apprehension, causing her to lower her eyes.

Alice, accustomed to the persistent lack of trust, bore it with enduring resistance. As a former brainwashed assassin, the distrust mirrored her own insecurities. Living in perpetual fear of reverting to Forsaken and kill everyone, she found solace only in Loki's firm trust. Despite Loki's abrasive nature, he saw the best in her – a perspective no one else, not even Steve, had offered. She observed how Steve, despite his bravado, sometimes still approached her with caution, recognizing the fragile balance between her past and present. The room, thick with unspoken emotions, became a canvas of lingering doubts and concealed vulnerabilities.
