Falling Star

They said that you'll know if you fall in love with the right person. Sometimes it's not always true...Sometimes you already are with the right person but you did not even know you're slowly falling.

I've seen him for maybe a hundred times, just passing by in front of me. There are times where we have small talks like when he asked me that one time in  math class if he heard the announcement right. I didn't know what to tell him then; I hated math class and I never even bother to listen. Besides, my best friend is really good at math anyway I could just ask her. Then another time in literature when he asked me if I want to pair with him in the project. I just said yes, I didn't really need a pair then. I love literature and I would do great even when alone, but he was so polite that I would feel awful if I said no.

He was just another person then, just another soul for me. I thought his existence in my life is merely fleeting. Well it was true until that one moment...

ASTRONOMY NIGHT

It was some silly event in the university, they love it of course. It's a break from all the books, the labs, and the lecture. It's a two days and a night event, wherein there are people who are going to the university who knows stuff about the celestial bodies and etc. They have bubble domes where they project stars, constellations, and planets. To make it exciting there are booths and acoustic bands invited. People will lay on the grass watching the stars and group of friends will talk like their life depend on it. I on the other hand, wander around the university. I walked on empty pathways of the colleges, basking on the silence and breathing in the misty, cold, fresh air. I could hear the muffled music and noise mixing together. I ended up in the bridge where I decided to sit down and watch the stars alone, it was astronomy night anyway and there is no harm in doing what we were supposed to do.

"A falling star..." I whispered.

"You should make a wish." I heard a soft voice and I looked up surprised.

"I already did. Why are you here? You're not supposed to be here." I asked confused, I never heard his footsteps. It's kind of creepy but I don't feel scared.

"I sort of followed you." He scratched his head looking like he was shy for what he just said, which he should  be it is weird. What he said next made my heart warm. "I just saw you walking alone, It's dark and no one is around, I just figured that it's not so safe."

"Thank you, that's very nice of you..." I didn't ask for his motive. Maybe  I was scared then on what he will say.

He sat beside me and looked at all the lights on the streets. There are a lot of lights from the distance just outside the university. It's beautiful but it kind of reminds me how it should be fireflies instead of artificial lights.

"What did you wish for?" He asked me, which made me smile.

"It would not come true if I tell you. I can tell you though that It was five wishes." I told him smiling.

"I can tell you what my wish is." He said with a grin.

I stayed quiet, I can feel my heart beating quite differently. It was the first time we were this close. I mean we sat beside each other for so many times. We were never in the same circle, he had those friends I would never see as my friends. His interests are quite different than mine. I never really paid attention to him, he was just a classmate to me in a few general subjects. I never really like how his aura appears to me. Not until now, when he is so close to me talking about falling stars and smiling at me.

"It wouldn't be fair." I said smiling to him.

1:00 AM

We talked for quite some time when my phone lit up, it was 1:00 AM then I've been sitting with him for 20 minutes. My bestfriend checked if I already went home. As I've said I never really loved events like this. Half of the time we spent, we are just sitting  in silence. He doesn't seem calm though, he kept sighing and shifting.

"Why did you followed me, you never really have to you know? We aren't really that close." I asked just to break the silence.

"Well I guess this is it then. I, I just needed to tell you something."  I looked away.

"I've liked you from afar for so long, and I don't wanna keep on liking you afar. Can you give me a chance to pull you closer to me?" He said looking in my eyes. Sincerity, it's what I see deep in his beautiful brown eyes.

I guess it is true, sometimes you have to look closely to see it. I was going to say something but it looked like he don't want me to say anything.

"Those times I asked you on Math class about stupid questions, I know you are never listening, I could see how uninterested you are but you look cute whenever you are so confused.  Whenever I ask you to be paired with me in almost half of our literature activities, I know you are excellent at it. I just love how passion in your eyes and how love is evident there. So it's stupid how I try to make some small talks, or ways to be close to you when I could see you don't really get it."

He smiled, "I don't see in your eyes that you're uninterested in me or that you have fondness on me, but I see a chance. I don't like letting chances go away not when it's like this."

He raised my arm and placed a bracelet it's a simple one.

"A star?" I asked him quite confused.

"Can you grant my wish?" He said smiling. He offered his hand so we could stand up.

The very first time I held his hand, my world shook. No, the world was very clear but me and him is different. It's not a spark it's actually different, deeper.

"What is your wish?" I said in a small voice.

"Will you fall, for me?" He said using the pun. It's cute. I smiled, I can't help but smile.

"Maybe I will." I know I will.
