Chapter 15: One Step Closer

Y/N

He put on what remained his grey jacket, after using two strips of it the entire bottom section was effectively gone. All that was left were his two pockets, one that contained his revolver with three bullets still in its chamber, and the upper section that still housed the Gerbera flower he had pinned to pay homage to his mother. It could've been worse, but after the night was over there was no way he would be using it again, especially if another party somehow caught his attention.

The trees and other flora behind him quickly disappeared from view as Y/N made his way up the stairs to the very top part of the Botanical Garden; where David was patiently waiting for him and Mina as he stood beside the tall cylindrical structure that towered over everything else. The Tendril user quickly spotted Y/N coming up the stairs and amid the sound of a flowing river behind him he scoffed, crossing his arms and resting his tendrils over his shoulders. Things were already tense enough between them, and thanks to what David was about to do to Nova earlier that atmosphere did not improve much in the slightest.

"How wonderful, you've finally returned. I'm guessing your little conversation with that bitch went well? Y'know, since you two can pretty much relate to each other when it comes to... well... past upbringings." David rolled his eyes, making Y/N's flicker red for a moment before immediately narrowing his eyes.

"Yeah, no thanks to you. She may have been a villain who betrayed you but at least I understand the circumstances that led to it. Doesn't excuse what she did, obviously, but what you were about to do was completely unnecessary." Y/N argued, he knew what Nova did was wrong but it didn't hurt to look at the situation from both sides.

David merely chuckled and looked at the elevator. "Whatever you say, arguing with you won't solve anything and if I'm being quite honest there's other things to be worrying about than some quirkless woman." He truthfully stated.

Having a grudge against the person who betrayed you instead of focusing on the current lives that need to be saved... sure, David, good to know.

"How much longer will we need to work with David for again? I'm getting sick of hearing him." Scarlet groaned within Y/N's mind, the apparition had stayed mostly quiet after the group's little bout with Nova but even he had a limit for keeping silent when it came to things that needed to be said. This temporary team-up being one such occasion.

Don't worry, as soon as we get rid of that Wolfram guy and save the people on this island we'll be sure to part ways. I don't like this one bit either, but it's the best shot we got at attaining that goal.

"I just hope it ends soon." Scarlet sighed before disappearing once more. Having the memories of Y/N's past was bound to cause a negative relationship between him and David. After all, he was birthed from the boy's negativity.

Y/N quickly shook himself back to reality as David quietly hummed upon noticing the lack of a familiar face. "Say, where's Ashido at? Wasn't she with you earlier?" David wondered, but before Y/N could say anything a voice behind him suddenly responded to his question.

"Right here, David. Nice job being patient, I thought you would've went up by now seeing how determined you were to get revenge." Mina said as she came up the stairs her boyfriend walked up a few minutes ago. "Still, leaving Nova bleeding like that was harsh, though I wouldn't expect someone like you to take the time to help out with someone's wounds." She added with a glare.

"You should know that helping a person like her has its limits. And some people out there simply aren't worth saving, something you upcoming heroes are gonna have to grasp soon." David shot back, earning him an angered growl from the pinkette. He then sighed and raised his tendrils as he brought his attention over to the elevator. "Now, shall we finally get going? Arguing is only going to waste time."
