"You can sleep in my room. I'll sleep in my parents'."
"I don't want to sleep alone," Hyunjin complained, pouting dramatically.
"First, stop talking like that. Second, it's not happening."
He immediately dropped the act and returned to his usual serious tone.
"Seriously, Aeri. I want to explain what happened that night. I swear you misunderstood."
I looked away. "Listen, I don't want to hear it. It was pretty clear. Let's leave it alone for now. This isn't the right time."
"It's never the right time for you."
"I'm serious."
"So am I."
I sighed, already trying to think of a way to make him stop bringing it up. "Fine. After we figure all of this out, we can talk about it."
His expression softened immediately. "Deal."
Without another word, he headed toward my room.
"If you're hungry, there's food downstairs. Make something yourself."
"Thanks."
I turned and walked toward my parents' room.

I spent most of the night staring at the ceiling.
Every time I closed my eyes, my mind circled back to the same things—the shells, the switching, the woman from my dream, and Donghae.
For the first time in weeks, it felt like we were actually getting somewhere.
Eventually I grabbed my phone and started scrolling through social media, hoping boredom would force me to sleep.
A notification appeared.
Hwang
What are you doing?
Me
Sleeping.
Hwang
Are you a ghost?
Me
Are you a child?
Hwang
Touché.
Me
Go to sleep.
A few minutes later, I finally managed to drift off.mOr at least, I thought I did. The loudest knock I'd ever heard suddenly shook the door.
I nearly jumped out of bed.
"I swear, if that's you..." I muttered.
Another knock echoed through the room. I sat upright.
"Hey! Stop it!" I stormed toward the door and pulled it open. Nobody was there.
The hallway was empty.
Silent.
Cold.
A chill crawled up my spine. For a moment I just stood there staring. Then, annoyed more than anything, I walked straight to my room.
Hyunjin was asleep. Completely asleep. Not pretending. Not moving. His breathing was slow and steady.
I frowned.
The knocks had been real. I knew they had. Confused, I returned to bed. The moment I closed my eyes, another knock sounded.
This time I froze. Someone was standing inside the room.
Near the door.
The same woman. My heart stopped.
She wore old-fashioned clothes, the same ones I'd seen before. And once again, she looked like me.
