(Cordelia POV)

Society hadn't changed as we all blindly believed.

History is repeating itself, and by repeating itself, I am breaking the promise I had made to myself.

When my mother had met her demise, and I became the Supreme, I promised myself that the coven would be safe, and our kind would not have to worry about extinction as it did when my mother reigned.

But society never changed, and the same threat to our very existence has come back.

No, society contains the same hate it has for centuries. It is the reason we must leave - the reason for our kind dying.

• 4 Days Earlier •

The air was humid, the sun beating down on the young girls and I as we casually walked down the streets of New Orleans, our heels clicking on the pavement to the beat of the jazz music filling the summer air.

As we approached the academy, the girls stood by the gates while Zoe enchanted the locks to open. The girls walked through the gates first as I stood behind, and Zoe lead the girls inside the house.

Once we entered the house, the girls had been exhausted and went up to their rooms.

The day was productive; most of the girls began to learn about how to control their telekinesis and some of them were even able to master it.

Using a sweeping hand motion, I locked the doors and the window curtains closed, blocking the sunlight from coming into the house.

I stopped for a moment, hearing the familiar sound of soft crying coming from upstairs. Biting my lip, I knew it was Zoe, and I slowly walked up the stairs, heading to her room.

When I opened the door to her room, she was crawled up on her bed, Kyle wrapping his arms around her. She glanced up at me with her big eyes filled with tears. Looking at her cry right now reminded me of when I first met her.

She was a teenager when she had just arrived here. After Madison pretended to attempt to sacrifice her, she had been sitting on the table so vulnreable with tears in her eyes.

Now, with the same innocent eyes, she has matured so much as a young woman and witch over the past year. But even as powerful of a witch she is, she still has the weak emotional capacity like any human.

Kyle looked up at me with a saddened look and sat up from the bed, gingerly stroking Zoe's hair. "I'll give you some privacy."

He kissed Zoe on the forehead and whispered in her ear, "I love you."

I sat at the end of her bed, reaching over to take her hand. "It's okay, dear. Time will heal your pain."

"I'm sorry," she whimpered. "I know it has been months since we lost the baby..."

"Love is wonderful," I spoke. "But it is the wonderful love that can give us such wretched heart ache once it is lost."

She sniffled and wiped the tears from her eyes. "I thought it was a miracle," she said. "Impossible, but still a miracle. I thought my powers meant Kyle and I could never have a child." She choked on tears, taking a deep breath. "I guess it was never meant to be."

I nodded and whispered softly. "Losing a child is one of the most painful things." I tilted her chin up and wiped the tears rolling down her cheek. "But time will heal this pain."

Pursing her lips, she closed her eyes as another tear slid down her cheek. "I just wish the pain would stop..."

As I opened my mouth to speak, the door flew open, and I jumped a little with surprise. Aimee, one of the new students, stood at the door, a panic struck look on her face.

"Ms. Foxx," she said in a shaky voice. "Something terrible has happened."

Immediately, both Zoe and I stood up and walked closer to Aimee.

"What happened, Aimee?" I asked.

"Some of the girls were sneaking out to go to a party... I knew it was a bad idea, I should have stopped them!" Tears reflected off her blue eyes, resembling a clear sky. "I had a vision...Some guys from the party took them, and I think they are in trouble."

"Where is the party?" Zoe demanded. "We need to find them before something bad happens to them."

"We are gathered here on this very night, to rid the world of these impure beings."

The man stood in the vacant field and walked along the line of twelve of the girls, who were all struggling against the rope binding them against the wooden stakes.

One of the struggling witches, Ella, began hysterically crying. "No, please... you don't understand!"

The man stopped in front of Ella, releasing a maniacal laugh. "The only thing there is to understand is that you witches are filthy, evil beings that should be taken away from this world."

"This isn't possible!" Mara yelled. "The Delphi Trust was just destroyed - all the witch hunters should be gone."

"Well, we're back," The leader of the hunters spoke. "And all you witches will be gone."

Another witch, Rhiannon, focused her energy towards the witch hunter to harm him. "You underestimate us - we are far more powerful than you think." She felt the energy course through her body, and she screamed as she felt pain be inflicted on herself.

"You are powerless here," declared another witch hunter, stepping towards Rhiannon. "You are surrounded by angelica plants - a repellant against your practice of powers. No matter how powerful you are, your powers are rendered useless here."

"Not while I'm here." I interrupted, slamming all of the witch hunters against the ground almost effortlessly.

The men screamed in agony, begging for me to stop.

I turned to Zoe and Aimee. "Quickly, untie them down from the stakes, but don't go inside the circle of crushed angelica plants - it won't work there. I can't keep them down much longer. Hurry!"

Zoe and Aimee joined hands and began to chant a spell.

I felt myself struggle as I used all my energy to keep the men down, and I could feel myself becoming weak, my powers fading.

The girls had gotten freed from the stakes, but they couldn't walk past the protection circle the hunters placed around them.

My body began to become tense, and suddenly, I felt myself collapse to the ground.

As I laid on the ground, I could see the hunters approaching the circle and the screams of the witches.

Zoe and Aimee's cries filled the air, and they ran towards me and forced me up from the ground.

"We need to leave, Cordelia. Now!" Zoe demanded.

"No! We can't leave them! We need to get them out!" I yelled.

"We have no choice, the hunters placed a protection around them so they can't leave. We need to get everyone else at the coven away from here!"

Zoe grabbed me by the arm, and we ran away from the horrific burning - the massacre of own kind.

I felt tears cascading down my face as I looked behind us. Flames began to rise around them in a circle, and I screamed for all of them, knowing I couldn't do anything to save them.
