Perhaps it was the sunkissed room, or the familiar scent of hot chocolate and coffee wafting through the natural buzz in the atmosphere, but any of my previous worries had been swept away the second I stepped into the shop.
What seemed like an unnecessarily long breath dragged me towards the countertop, my excited eyes being met by another gleamy, cheerful set.
"Afternoon! What would you like?"
Kei walked up next to me, almost startling me as I thought he was next to me the entire time already, but it appeared that I had rushed in without even realizing it.
"A hot chocolate for me please," I chirped, slightly leaning forward.
"Same here."
The barista nodded before jotting down our orders.
"Alright, you two can go pick a spot and your drinks will be out soon."
I smiled at her, turning around to face Kei who was already walking towards a booth placed near the window, our usual spot.
I sat down across from him, a smile stuck on my face as if there was a joke being played on repeat in my head.
It felt weird to be smiling this much, the sensation of non-synthetic glee made my fingertips tingle and my cheeks sore.
Kei rested his head on his hand, peering out the window longingly. I watched as his eyes flickered between objects when they wandered beyond the window, honey irises almost seeming orange under the sunshine glow radiating through the glass panes. Despite looking bored to probably anyone else, there was a ghost of a grin across his lips, his expression looked more lively today than it had been previously.
His eyes quickly drifted over to me, almost unrecognizable behind the side frame of his glasses. He didn't say anything, just kept his eyes locked on me as they studied silently.
"What is it?" I frowned, a red tint glowing under my eyes. He moved his head forward, looking at me straight on.
"Nothing, you just look good."
I quickly looked away. This time it was my turn to stare out the clear barriers as he admired me. I couldn't help the ever-growing blush spreading across my cheeks, fingers twirling along the sandpapered down wooden table.
I felt something rub across my hands before I looked down, my once before nervous fingers now interlocked in his, his arms stretched across the table as his cheek was pressed on the top.
He sighed, rubbing the tops of my hands with his thumb.
"I wish I could hold you in my arms," he whispered, eyes closed exasperatingly.
"You can. What do you mean?"
He peeked his eyes open halfway, pupils staring at me through his eyelashes.
"I mean right now. I want to hold you under my covers n shit," he groaned, an embarrassed scowl across his lips.
"Then why did you request to come here if you wanted to cuddle, dummy?" I giggled, leaning in towards him. He looked away, his chin rested on his arm.
